$1.2 Million Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet Is Rarer Than a Bugatti Veyron

If you’re a millionaire and love SUVs from Mercedes-Benz, the answer is simple, pay six-figures for an excellent G-Wagen. However, if you’re a billionaire, you’ll struggle without the help of Maybach. This is where the ultra-rare Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet comes in.

While it might look like a lifted G-Wagen, the G650 Landaulet is part of an extremely limited run of SUVs primarily targeted at the world’s richest buyers. In a rare twist, one of these off-roading machines just came up for sale on DuPont Registry. The price? $1.2 million.

Why is this Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet so expensive?

If the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet looks like a lifted G-Wagen, you’re technically correct. This SUV can trace its roots to the wacky six-wheeled AMG G63 6×6. After creating a six-wheeled version of its four-wheeled SUV, Mercedes-Benz decided to create a four-wheeled variant of the 6×6 with the 4×42. If you’re following this unusual development timeline, then you’ll likely know what spawned the G650.

Unlike the other off-roading SUVs, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet exists to be the most luxurious way to go off-roading. As a result, this SUV got the full Maybach treatment with a bespoke interior featuring upgraded materials. However, the biggest differentiator is the fact that this variant is a convertible.

Since a twin-turbo V8 wouldn’t do for the world’s elites, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet features a twin-turbo V12. Power output is rated at over 600 hp. Additionally, this variant features a stretched wheelbase with the sole purpose of offering extra legroom.

How many of these trucks exist?

Chances are you’ll never see a Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet on the road. According to Automobile, only 99 examples of this SUV ever left the production line. Part of what makes this newest DuPont Registry listing interesting is the fact that Mercedes-Benz never sold this SUV officially in the U.S. As a result, the few that currently roam our streets were likely brought in under unusual circumstances.

While you will hear famous artists sing about Bugattis, Lamborghinis, and Ferraris, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet is significantly rarer. Additionally, this SUV is likely one of the best appreciating vehicles currently on sale. According to Car and Driver, this SUV likely cost its owner around $550,000. However, this used example we’re looking at today has a $1.2 million price tag.

The global pandemic is hitting the 1 percent quite hard

If you’ve got $1.2 million to spend, DuPont Registry has the truck for you. However, despite this massive appreciation curve, it seems the global pandemic hasn’t been kind to the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet. Last year, Automobile found one of these SUVs listed at $1.8 million in the U.S.

It’s not like mileage is a factor either. The one Automobile found had just 47 miles on the clock. The one DuPont Registry is selling has covered a surprising 49 miles since new. If we had to guess, the SUV covered most of those on its way into the U.S.
