1 Automaker Had 3 of the Top 10 Best-Selling Models of 2022
If you’re interested in buying a vehicle in the new year, you might be interested in the most popular models. Usually, if a certain vehicle make or model is best-selling, it’s because there’s something excellent about it. However, others might want to choose something else to stand out from the crowd. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be different from the thousands of other vehicles you’re stuck in traffic with. If that’s the case, there’s one automaker to avoid that had three of the top 10 best-selling models of 2022 in its lineup. Although no Toyota model finished first, no other automaker had three of the top 10. The RAV4, Camry, and Tacoma were some of the best-sellers of 2022.
Best-selling models of 2022
Car and Driver compiled its list of best-selling models of 2022. With it, we got a few answers about things many in the automotive industry were questioning. The first was whether or not pickup truck sales would continue to flourish since gas prices skyrocketed last year. Moreover, the answer is yes, as the top three best-selling models are all trucks. Following the top three trucks, Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado, and Ram pickups are the first two Toyota models.
In the top 10 best-sellers list, the Toyota RAV4 finished fourth, while the Toyota Camry finished fifth. Even more impressive might be that the Camry is the only car in the top 10. Furthermore, the popular midsize truck from the automaker’s lineup finished ninth. The Tacoma sold 237,323 units in 2022, the Camry sold 295,201 units, and the RAV4 a whopping 399,941.
Best-selling models of 2022 | Units sold |
Ford F-Series | 653,957 |
Chevy Silverado | 513,354 |
Ram pickup | 468,344 |
Toyota RAV4 | 399,941 |
Toyota Camry | 295,201 |
Tesla Model Y | 253,793 |
GMC Sierra | 241,522 |
Honda CR-V | 238,155 |
Toyota Tacoma | 237,323 |
Jeep Grand Cherokee | 223,345 |
More Toyota models barely missed
Something even crazier than finishing with three models in the top 10 best-selling models of 2022 happened to Toyota. It also had an additional two models right outside the top 10. We’re not talking top 25 or anything either, as the Highlander and Corolla are numbers 11 and 12 on the best-sellers list. The ever-popular Toyota Highlander midsize SUV sold 222,805 units, good enough to land it just behind the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Behind that is the Toyota Corolla sedan, which customers bought 222,216 times, right behind its three-row SUV big brother.
Although three models in the top 10 is impressive, five models in the top 12 is even more impressive. Especially considering the rest of the top-selling vehicles are all from unique automakers until you get passed all these Toyotas. The list provided by C/D features the top 25 best-selling vehicles of 2022, and the rest of the top 25 does not include any other Toyota model. However, it’s surprising that some of its closest competitors are much further down on the list.
For example, the Honda Accord sold just 154,612 units, good enough for the 20-spot and far below its Camry rival.
Only Toyota has 3 of the top 10 best-selling models of 2022
In conclusion, the top 25 best-selling models of 2022 is filled with variety. There are crossovers, wagons, SUVs, pickup trucks, sedans, and more. However, there is only one automaker that dominated the top 10 section of the best-selling list. For years, Toyota has been a trusted name for reliable, affordable vehicles that always seem to get the job done. As a result, the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Camry, and Toyota Tacoma have some of the highest sales numbers again for 2022.
