Only 1 Automaker Offers the Same Warranty Coverage as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis
A major factor car shoppers consider when choosing a new vehicle over a used one is the peace of mind that comes with the car’s manufacturer warranty. When new vehicles develop problems during the warranty period, automakers cater to the repair cost. Hyundai, Kia (co-owned by Hyundai), and Genesis (a luxury brand of Hyundai) are known to have among the best warranty coverage in the auto business. However, Mitsubishi is the only automaker that offers almost the same coverage as the three sibling car brands.
Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis warranty coverage
According to Cars.com, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis offer some of the best bumper-to-bumper warranties that span five years or 60,000 miles. Additionally, their powertrain coverage runs for 10 years or 100,000 miles, while the roadside assistance extends for five years with unlimited mileage.
Genesis also has enhanced maintenance and service coverage. The main battery and drive system component for EVs and hybrids comes with a 10-year or 100,000 miles coverage, with the EV battery degradation limited to 70% of capacity.
While Kia’s basic warranty is transferable to a second owner, its powertrain coverage is non-transferable. U.S. News also notes that Kia doesn’t offer trip interruption coverage when a warranty-covered breakdown occurs more than 150 miles from home. Lastly, the manufacturer also has a 60,000 mileage cap for its five-year roadside assistance coverage, which isn’t the case with Hyundai and Genesis.
Mitsubishi offers almost identical coverage
Mitsubishi vehicles come with five years or 60,000-mile basic warranty, a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and a seven-year or 100,000-mile perforation warranty. Additionally, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV drivers get an additional 10 years or 100,000 miles of coverage for the battery pack and electric vehicle components.
Like Hyundai and Genesis, Mitsubishi’s roadside assistance warranty spans five years with an unlimited miles cap. Besides the standard roadside assistance features, Mitsubishi offers an attendant to help drivers make alternative arrangements on the road and trip interruption cover for warranty-related breakdowns. Owners can access the attendant through the Mitsubishi app or by phone.
How Mitsubishi warranty coverage slightly differs from Hyundai and Genesis
Motor1 notes that in recent years, Hyundai, Genesis, and Mitsubishi have consistently been top of the list for the best new car warranty. The three automakers offer similar bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties. However, Hyundai and Genesis provide other new vehicle coverage that slightly differs from Mitsubishi.
Hyundai offers a seven-year, unlimited miles anti-perforation coverage and a limited one-year or 12,000 miles replacement parts and accessories warranty. Lessees and buyers of some of Hyundai’s vehicles also get three years or 36,000 miles of no-cost maintenance and complimentary navigation map updates.
Like Hyundai, Genesis has a Service Valet program. During the first three years or 36,000 miles, the manufacturer picks up owners’ vehicles for service and delivers free scheduled maintenance. During every maintenance interval, owners get free oil exchange and map updates for the built-in Genesis navigation map system.
While Mitsubishi offers nearly every bit of warranty coverage that Genesis and Hyundai do, its powertrain coverage lowers to five years or 60,000 miles when transferred to a secondary owner. The manufacturer also doesn’t offer navigation map updates and the three-year or 36,000-mile complimentary service valet and diagnostic checks Genesis and Hyundai offer.
Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are popular in reassuring buyers of generous warranty coverage. The three siblings are well-known for their longest warranty coverage in the automotive industry. However, Mitsubishi is another automaker that offers almost the same coverage as the three, with slight differences.
