Only 1 Disappointment Holds the 2024 Mazda CX-90 Back
Families are gaining more and more three-row SUVs to consider. The Mazda CX-90 is one of the latest options to emerge with more space for parents, their children, and the family dog to enjoy. However, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 tech is a little dated.
How is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 tech?
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 tech covers the basics with modern functions, but it feels dated. The CX-90 just debuted in 2023 for the 2024 model year.
So, you would expect it to be advanced with the latest tech that SUVs have to offer. However, it seems like it borrowed everything from the CX-5, which was last redesigned back in 2017.
The CX-5 has received a light refresh with updated tech but hasn’t received any significant upgrades. I can understand keeping SUVs similar across the lineup.
But why not put edge-cutting tech in the CX-90 and have other models catch up later? The next generation of the CX-5 is expected to launch in 2025, and I hope it has upgraded tech to better compete with rivals.
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 tech starts with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, which sounds pretty large. However, it’s wide and narrow, making a few details difficult to see. Higher trim levels have a 12.3-inch screen, though.
Also, it’s controlled by the classic Mazda rotary dial system because it’s not a touchscreen system. Apple CarPlay can be controlled via touchscreen functionality, though.
But don’t get too excited, because Apple CarPlay and Android Auto don’t have wireless connectivity in the CX-90 unless you opt for a higher trim level, putting it behind the curve.
The digital gauge cluster still has analog gauges without much customization. But the head-up display feels modern with road sign recognition, navigation instructions, and blind-spot warning.
Plus, the HVAC system is primarily controlled but touch sensation buttons and toggle switches instead of physical dials and the ambient interior lighting is limited to small sections of the door trim.
The reverse camera and 360-degree camera displays are helpful but would benefit from a higher resolution.
I have no complaints about the available 12-speaker Bose audio system or the intelligent safety features, though.
There are USB-C ports in each row to keep tons of tablets, phones, and handheld gaming systems charged too. Also, the wireless phone charging pad is in a great location and it didn’t make my phone get too hot.
Also, some folks may enjoy the simplified tech to focus on driving. My Mazda CX-90 tech complaints could be subjective as the CX-90 still provides near-luxury comfort, plenty of space in each row, and an athletic performance to enjoy.
If you’re looking for more modern tech in a three-row SUV, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe or Palisade might be better options to consider. They display the weather, have sounds of nature, feature a quiet mode, and custom ambient lighting colors.
However, the CX-90 does have hybrid and PHEV powertrains to consider for a better fuel economy.
I have lots of great things to say about the CX-90, including family benefits. I’ll share this info in the next few days.
