Dodge, Ram, and Jeep have had a glorious run with the eye-popping SRT Hellcat package. At 707 hp, nothing like this was ever offered in an American vehicle. Not even close, really. But with the demise of the Dodge Charger and Challenger, and Ram 1500 TRX, it seems that 2023 will be the end of the Hellcat. However, that’s not true.

For 2024, the Hellcat will live on in one Dodge, the Durango. Yes, the 2024 Durango SUV will become the last SRT Hellcat-equipped vehicle Stellantis makes. And then, after 2024, that will be the end.

What’s new for the 2024 Dodge Durango?

Dodge will offer both a 6.4-liter SRT and a 6.2-liter Hellcat. The 6.4 SRT comes in at 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.2 Hellcat displays 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. The 0 to 60 time for the SRT is 4.4 seconds, with the Hellcat hitting 0 to 60 in a scant 3.5 seconds. Top speed is 180 mph, too.

When the 2024 Dodge Durango comes out, it will feature several new items for its swan song. Several new safety features are coming, with the Durango Citadel adding a Tow N Go package. This includes a body kit featuring 20-inch wheels and Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires. There are also either red or black brake calipers.

How much will a 2024 Durango SRT Hellcat be?

Other 2024 Durango news include an active damping suspension, electronic limited-slip differential, and an improved active noise canceling system. For the 5.7-liter V8, top speed increases to 145 mph, and towing capacity improves with a maximum of 8,700 lbs. The safety features include standard Blind Spot Monitoring, and if you order the Trailer Tow Group, it includes trailer detection with the Blind Spot Monitoring.

Prices haven’t been announced yet. For perspective, the base 2023 Dodge Durango starts at a hair over $40,000. For the 2023 SRT Hellcat Premium package, that price soars to $93,605, but most that we see for sale go for over $100,000.

What’s replacing the Durango after 2024?

From here on out, Stellantis will be releasing a gang of new EVs as it slowly kills off gasoline-power models. But the new Hurricane straight six-cylinder engine will carry gas-power performance at Stellantis for the foreseeable future. As we understand, most new EVs will also be available with hybrid packages, so gasoline power isn’t going away anytime soon.

It is up in the air when the replacement for the Durango will arrive. Rumors say the new Durango replacement will be called “Stealth.” Why reviving that name for an SUV remains a mystery, as the Durango has built up name recognition since first appearing in 1998
