EVs have many positive attributes, such as zero emissions, quick acceleration, and a quiet ride. One of the major drawbacks of EVs, though, is most electric cars have a low driving range compared to gas-powered ones. Currently, there is only one production electric car that has over 500 miles of driving range: the 2022 Lucid Air luxury sports sedan.

The 2022 Lucid Air has the longest driving range for a production EV, with an estimated range of 520 miles for the Dream Edition Range trim. While the other Lucid Air trims have a lower range, they are still higher than other electric cars available. 

Here is the estimated driving range for each Lucid Air trim:

  • Dream Edition Range: 520 miles
  • Grand Touring: 516 miles
  • Dream Edition Performance: 471 miles
  • Touring: 406 miles
  • Pure: 406 miles

How does the Lucid Air have so much driving range?

Increasing the driving range is a significant challenge for electric vehicles, but the Lucid Air made an engineering breakthrough by surpassing the 500-mile range mark. The reason for the high range is that Lucid designed the Air with a focus on efficiency. It gets an estimated fuel economy of up to 131 MPGe. 

Many aspects of the Air were designed to maximize range. This includes its “miniaturized, in-house designed powertrain” and “aerodynamic shape that reduces drag at high speeds.” Also, the Air has a large 112.0-kWh battery pack.

Along with the high driving range, the Air has fast-charging capabilities. The electric sports sedan can add 300 miles of range in 20 minutes. Also, buyers of the 2022 Lucid Air get three years of free fast-charging at Electrify America charging stations.

Not only does the 2022 Lucid Air have over a 500-mile driving range, but it also delivers phenomenal performance. Its dual electric motors generate an incredible output of 1,111 horsepower and 1,025 lb-ft of torque. Also, the Air has fast acceleration, with a 0-60 mph time as low as 2.6 seconds. Additionally, it has a top speed of 173 mph.

While Tesla dominates the list of electric cars with the highest driving range, the automaker doesn’t offer any models that can match the driving range of the 2022 Lucid Air.
