Only 1 Electric Sedan Isn’t a Luxury Car in 2023
Every day, the automotive industry changes and advances in complexity, with different kinds of vehicles often being introduced. Lately, many consumers are adapting to the electrification of the vehicle industry, since one out of every 10 cars in America is an EV. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is an excellent example of a modern electric vehicle, growing in popularity every day.
Even though many EVs are in production, consumer brands are mostly only making SUVs and hatchbacks. In fact, the Ioniq 6 is the only electric sedan for the 2023 model year that’s not from a luxury brand.
2023 has fantastic electric luxury sedans
Many amazing EVs are available in the automotive industry at the beginning of 2023. Tesla is one of the most popular electric car brands, and it is responsible for making the Tesla Model 3. This vehicle was priced at $35,000 when it was first launched, which is quite affordable for an electric car.
The Porsche Taycan is another EV that has graced the industry, having a combined fuel economy of 83 MPGe. The base trim is packed with a 79.2 kWh battery and a range of 208 miles, while the GTS trim has a 93.4 kWh battery pack, offering up to 246 miles on a single charge.
Audi has its e-tron family of models, the original of which has a combined fuel economy of 79 MPGe. It is powered by a 95.0-kWh lithium-ion battery, which packs 402 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque. According to Car and Driver, the e-tron has a range of 226 miles, which is within the average range for an EV.
As if the market hasn’t already seen a good number of impressive EVs, Mercedes has introduced the EQS, an electric SUV with a range of 305 miles that’s also available as a sedan build. The EQS SUV has a combined fuel economy of 85 MPGe and costs $105,550.
Is the Hyundai Ioniq 6 a luxury car?
As one of the Tesla 3 and Tesla S models’ major competitors, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is indeed a marvel. It has a variety of trim options to choose from, each with remarkable features. The standard range trim has an MSRP of $41,600 and is, therefore, cheaper than most luxury electric cars. Its SE long-range trim has an MSRP of $45,500, which is a bargain compared to its features.
The standard range can go up to 240 miles on a full charge. It has a rear-wheel drive platform and produces up to 149 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
On the other hand, the long-range trim goes for 361 miles when it’s fully charged. With standard AWD and a 320-hp powertrain setup, its $49,000 price makes it a range champion from Hyundai.
More electric luxury sedans are on their way
Luxury brands such as Cadillac are still planning to introduce fresh new models. Cadillac is planning on launching the much-awaited Cadillac Celestiq early in 2024. This electric hatchback EV is expected to generate 600 horsepower, and its MSRP will be more than $300,000.
Alfa Romeo also plans to join the game with the Giulia EV, which is expected in 2025. Its base trim will generate 350 hp, while the Veloce trim is expected to generate around 800 hp. Moreover, the Quadrifoglio trim will generate more than 1,000 hp, and the model will have a range of more than 500 miles.
Lastly, Canoo is also expected to launch a new pickup truck in 2024 that will be nearly as large as a Ford Ranger. It will generate more than 500 hp, and its range will be 200 miles. These EVs are sure to revolutionize the whole concept of electric powertrains. However, they clearly won’t be affordable to most consumers.
