The Ford F-150 has long been an iconic full-size truck. When you ask someone to picture a pickup, an F-Series truck is likely what comes to mind. But with the rising costs of new vehicles, buying a 2022 Ford F-150 may not be an option for most. Thankfully, there are a range of reliable truck options out there. And this used F-150 might be the best to buy.

The 2013 Ford F-150 is one worth buying

If you want a reliable used full-size truck, the 2013 F-150 offers a solid value proposition. Depending on mileage and trim level, you can find this pickup truck for sale for about $20,000 or less. And that is certainly less than purchasing a new Ford F-150.

The 2013 Ford F-150 is a member of the 12th generation of F-Series trucks. New engine options were added, and fuel economy was improved over prior models. But don’t let that make you think this vehicle can’t be powerful. With the available 6.2-liter V8, you can benefit from 411 horsepower and 434 pound-foot of torque.

That said, for that engine, you will be paying a bit of a premium if you want a full-size truck with a V8. The base engine of this pickup is a 3.7-liter V6 that makes 302 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. Other mechanical features include an available electronic locking rear differential and other off-road improvements.

How much can a 2013 F-150 tow?

When compared to pickups of the past, modern trucks can tow quite a bit. In terms of the 2013 Ford F-150 towing capacity, it can handle up to 11,300 lbs. According to Car and Driver, the 2022 F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs. But, you will be paying significantly more for a new full-size truck than you would buying used.

With the 2013 F-150, you can likely find one with its available towing package. And that will help you tow things like boats or any other toys that you may have. Granted, not a lot of folks actually tow with their trucks. But, it is nice to have the peace of mind that you can if you have to.

Which Ford F-150 should I avoid?

When you’ve been around as long as the F-150, there’s going to be some duds. And that is true for the 2004 Ford F-150. According to Vehicle History, this full-size truck was plagued with different issues. So, it is probably best to avoid it if you want to buy a used pickup.

The 2004 F-150 was prone to engine failure, and there was a major recall that affected the fuel system. Plus, at this point, the 2004 F-Series truck is nearly 20 years old. Unless you are on a serious budget, you can likely get something newer that will come with more features.

Other F-150 models also have their issues. So, if you do want to purchase a pre-owned model, be sure to conduct the proper research. That way, you will know you are getting something that will last.
