1 Half-Ton Pickup Truck’s MSRP is Now Above $40K
At the beginning of 2022, you could pick from one of three half-ton pickup trucks with an MSRP below $30k (F-150, Silverado, or Ram 1500 Classic). But global supply chain shortages forced automakers to all add several thousand to their prices. Now, nearing the end of 2023, the Nissan Titan’s starting MSRP has finally climbed above $40k.
Why is the Nissan Titan so expensive?
Partway through 2023, Nissan jacked up the Titan’s MSRP. It is now the only half-ton truck that starts above $40k. But unlike many half-tons, the Titan isn’t available with a two-door “regular” cab or any engine smaller than its premium 5.6-liter V8.
Nissan offers a half-ton truck but focuses on the mid-trim market segment. Ford, General Motors, and Ram all offer a barebones work truck targeted at the commercial fleet market. But Nissan does not. And Detroit–along with Toyota–offers leather-loaded top-trim trucks that can run you six figures when fully loaded.
The Titan lags behind the rest of the half-ton segment in sales numbers. So it makes sense that Nissan would not bother engineering additional base model powertrains or top-trim powertrains (like you get in the supercharged TRX or Raptor R).
When you configure a mid-trim Ram 1500, Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, or Toyota Tundra, you’ll find the the Nissan Titan’s prices are relatively competitive. To be blunt, new trucks are getting expensive.
How much is a 2023 half-ton pickup truck?
All the automakers added several thousand to their half-ton pickup truck MSRPs for 2023. Prices have continued to increase throughout the year. You’ll pay at least $33k for a current-gen pickup truck.

The above prices reflect each automakers barebones truck. Options add up fast. If you want a full-size 4WD pickup truck, you’ll pay nearly $40k. If you want a crew cab pickup truck with 4WD and a V8, you’re looking at nearly $50k. The Titan is less expensive than other trucks once optioned up, but that wasn’t enough to save it.
The Nissan Titan is dead
Even with Nissan’s tight focus on a particular segment of half-ton truck buyers, the Titan will not survive through 2024. In August 2023, the automaker announced it will cancel its half-ton at the end of 2024.
For years, Nissan offered a half-ton Titan and Titan XD with an available 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel V8 and a heavier payload capacity. But over the years, it has limited its lineup. It dropped the Titan XD and all regular-cab two-door trucks in 2020. Then, it pulled the Titan from the Canadian market in 2021.
Meanwhile, a full redesign of the midsize Nissan Frontier doubled that truck’s sales. So it makes sense that Nissan is dropping Titan production to focus on the Frontier.
But there will still be one more year of the Nissan Titan. How much will a 2024 Nissan Titan cost? Nissan just announced its price will begin at $45,770.
