There’s nothing quite like driving a full-size truck. So, it makes sense that many Americans choose to drive a pickup truck, even if they do not actually need one. But, apparently, one manufacturer has plans to kill off its only full-size pickup, and that brand is Nissan. Although brands like Ford and Ram have found success with large pickups, the Nissan Titan has slowly been declining in sales since its redesign in 2016. The Titan was already dropped from the Canadian market, and come 2024, it could disappear entirely. 

Is Nissan discontinuing the Titan?

The Titan is a full-size truck from Nissan, and in 2024, it might be ending its production. This truck comes standard with a V8 engine and features like four-wheel drive, but that has not been enough to win over shoppers. 

According to Edmunds, sales of the Nissan Titan peaked in 2017 at under 53,000 units sold. And ever since that high, sales have been dropping off. Unfortunately for the Titan, unless some major changes are made, it is likely on the chopping block.

Is the 2022 Nissan Titan a good truck?

In terms of being a full-size truck, this Nissan is decent enough. Each Titan comes standard with a V8 engine that makes 400 horsepower and 413 pound-foot of torque. This powerplant allows the Titan to tow up to 11,060 lbs.

While this pickup can not tow as much as other trucks, its standard V8 engine does set it apart from the competition. Instead of having to pay extra for the power of eight cylinders, you get that performance with each 2022 Titan model. And that is something to appreciate. 

Why don’t people buy the Nissan Titan?

Where the Nissan Titan really starts to fall short is when you compare it to its rivals. Models like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 are simply better equipped at this point in time. Nissan’s truck has a starting cost of around $40,000, but it does feel like an old-school truck. 

Other pickup trucks have better infotainment, more safety features, and interior elements that just feel more refined than the Titan. The same issues plagued the Nissan Frontier before Nissan finally brought its mid-size truck into its third generation. 

Surely Nissan could give a major update to the Titan. But that takes a lot of money and resources to do well. Maybe by 2024, which is when Nissan plans to kill the full-size truck, the brand will change its mind and give the Titan a redesign. 

Should you buy the 2022 Nissan Titan?

If you are interested in a new full-size truck, considering the Titan is something that you should do. It might not be as great as other trucks, but it does do what it was built to do. Plus you get the benefits of a standard V8 engine. 

Just don’t expect the latest features that other trucks have to offer. And who knows, maybe you could get the cool factor of having a truck that is no longer made.
