Only 1 Minivan Falls Short in J.D. Power’s Rankings
Searching for the perfect minivan can be a challenging task. While there aren’t many models left in the market, some remain better than others. For many reasons, only one minivan falls short in J.D. Power’s rankings. As the worst overall model, it’s far behind others. Even the few that aren’t leading the pack remain close behind. However, the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica falls short of all the other minivans.
J.D. Power’s best overall minivans
Only four minivan models remain in the segment for the 2022 model year. They are the Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, and Kia Carnival. Although the Carnival claims to be an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), it’s a minivan at heart. One model sits at the top of J.D. Power‘s best overall minivan rankings. JDP gave the Honda Odyssey the highest score of the group, earning itself an 81 out of 100. Highlighted are the Honda minivan’s quietness, safety, and storage, among many other things.
Next is the 2022 Toyota Sienna. Just a few points shy of Honda’s offering, the Sienna earned a 78 overall. While it does a lot of things right, the Sienna suffers from poor interior attractiveness, a lacking navigation system, and a loud cabin. Finally, the Kia Carnival came in third, just a point shy of the Sienna. Unfortunately, it gets worse gas mileage than the other models, and removing/rearranging seats isn’t as simple as competitors.
1 minivan falls short
According to J.D. Power, following the top three minivans is the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica. Although the top three are within four points of each other, the Pacifica falls short. Chrysler’s minivan earned just a 70 out of 100, seven points shy of the third-place Kia Carnival. Furthermore, a few different things caused the Pacifica to suffer compared to its rivals.
JDP ranks each of its reviewed vehicles in a few different categories. They are quality and reliability, driving experience, resale value, and dealership experience. Together, the scores combine to decide the overall ranking, which landed the Pacifica at the bottom. Despite excellent driving experience and resale value scores, the Chrysler minivan’s other categories scored low enough to place it dead last.
First, quality and reliability is a section the Chrysler Pacifica needs a lot of improvement. Arguably the most important subject, it received just a 67 out of 100. That means there are plenty of defects, design flaws, and other non-routine issues owners often experience. Next, though not quite as important, is that most people have a terrible dealership experience. Users reported just a 62 out of 100, far lower than most competition. This includes everything from the sales process down to servicing their vehicle.
What do owners dislike about the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica?
Fortunately, J.D. Power doesn’t make its rankings based on only its own review. Instead, it takes the feedback from each model’s current and previous owners. As a result, likes and dislikes are gathered using the majority’s opinions. Most people with a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica liked the experience of using navigation and the infotainment system, the fuel economy, and how nice the interior displays look.
However, dislikes with Chrysler’s minivan are crucial to owners in this segment. Firstly, ease of getting in and out of the seats isn’t good. Climbing into minivan seats should be seamless, as it’s one of the main reasons people buy these people-movers.
Next, the rear seats are uncomfortable. Again, the many-seated minivan is built for extra passengers, which are apparently all uncomfortable in the Chrysler Pacifica. Finally, storage isn’t as good as competitors. Whether it’s a lack of storage space or not enough compartments to store items, cargo space is another minivan seller. The Pacifica lacking in this area is a detriment to its ability to beat other minivan models.
J.D Power’s rankings have 1 minivan falling short
In conclusion, only four minivans remain available today. Fortunately, experts like J.D. Power say almost every model is an excellent choice. Buyers of the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, or Kia Carnival mostly love their vehicles. However, one minivan falls short with JDP and its owners, the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica.
