1 Missing 2024 Jeep Gladiator Feature Spurs Frustration
We’ve been waiting for fresh Jeep Gladiator updates since 2019, and the mid-cycle refresh is finally here. However, it doesn’t seem like much has changed on the surface despite receiving comfort, quality, and off-roading upgrades. Also, one significant 2024 Jeep Gladiator option is still missing.
Where is the Jeep Gladiator 4xe?
The 2024 Jeep Gladiator has tons of new features to be excited about, but there’s no Jeep Gladiator hybrid yet. While we’ve been drooling over Jeep Gladiator teasers for years, there’s still no end in sight.
With the Gladiator, you get a sole engine option, which is the standard 3.6-liter V6 engine with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The turbodiesel 3.0-liter V6 engine with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque has been discontinued.
The Jeep Gladiator 4xe is reportedly still in the works but doesn’t have an official release date. If we’re lucky, it will emerge by 2025 to provide a better fuel economy.
Currently, the Gladiator gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway. This isn’t horrible for a truck, but without the diesel alternative, the hybrid would provide relief at the fuel pump.
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and battery pack to generate 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It has an EPA-estimated range of 21 miles on a single charge and can get up to 49 MPGe.
It could provide different figures with the Gladiator due to its extra weight. Plus, the Gladiator can tow up to 7,700 lbs while the Wrangler 4xe maxes out at 3,500 lbs. Maybe Jeep is trying to figure out how to make it stronger to maintain the Gladiator’s attractive muscle.
What’s new for the 2024 Jeep Gladiator?
The 2024 Jeep Gladiator borrowed from the refreshed Jeep Wrangler with a matching grille design. It’s smaller to make space for an integrated winch. Also, the antenna is integrated into the windshield to avoid getting snagged on trails.
There are seven new wheel designs, three roof options, and three door options, including half-doors and removable ones.
Interior upgrades include more sound-deadening materials, a 12.3-inch Uconnect touchscreen, a new digital guage clutter, 12-way power-adjustable/waterproof seats, available integrated trail cameras, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
The new Gladiator is safer with first and second-row side airbags, standard forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go.
Is the new Gladiator better for off-roading?
Yes, the 2024 Jeep Gladiator has tons of off-roading enhancements, including standard Jeep Adventure Guides with comprehensive off-roading trail guides to describe every necessary aspect of over 3,000 trails.
There are four advanced off-road systems, the best-in-class 84:1 crawl ratio, water fording up to 31.5 inches, an 11.6-inch ground clearance, a 44.7-degree approach angle, a 20.9-degree breakover angle, and a departure angle of 26.0 degrees.
Two new trim levels include the Mojave X and Rubicon X. They feature steel bumpers, integrated trail cameras, and 12-way power-adjustable Nappa leather-trimmed seats.
Gladiator models have Dana 44 heavy-duty solid front and rear axles with a 4.10 axle ratio, steel rock rails, FOX front hydro jounce bumpers, a Tru-Lock axle locker, and full-time or part-time transfer cases.
The Off-Road+ system allows drivers to adjust the throttle, transmission shift points, and traction control for peak performance at high speeds over the sand or while rock crawling. It can also lock the axle at high speeds and 4HI. 4Lo is available as well.
While the Gladiaotr is an unstoppable beast, we hope the 4xe model is added to the lineup soon. Stay tuned for updates about pricing and trim variations.
