Only 1 Nissan Model Improved Reliability in 2022
Vehicle reliability is one of the key aspects of any new car to consider before purchasing. Consumer Reports’ reliability study is out for 2022 and is worth a look before you sign on the dotted line. These results measure sentiments provided by real vehicle owners via member surveys. The insights could save thousands of dollars, especially if you’re considering a Nissan. What this survey uncovered about certain models
Before diving into the details, a few overarching findings about vehicle categories are worth noting. For example, sedans are historically more reliable than pickups and SUVs. This Consumer Reports survey says those trends are expected to continue. So if you’re looking to decide between buying a car or an SUV, you’ll have better-predicted reliability with the car.
Looking at the reliability of trucks, this study suggests pickups can still be hit or miss in reliability. Many models have below-average ratings, including the Toyota Tundra, Jeep Gladiator, and Nissan Frontier. That doesn’t necessarily mean trucks are unreliable. It only points to the previous 12 months of ownership sentiments shared by actual pickup owners.
Other problems continue to plague the hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and EV segments. In years past, these electrified or partially electrified vehicles show issues with traditional features, like infotainment display screens and cabin tech.
These problems persist this year, only now compounded by reports of issues with EV-related components. Examples of those with below-average reliability include the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.
One Nissan model’s reliability improved
If you’re a devout Nissan enthusiast, you know that historically, this brand tends to rate well among consumers, even in reliability. However, this year’s Consumer Reports study shows only one Nissan model improved its reliability from previous years. If the Nissan Rogue isn’t on your shortlist, it should be.
Other models, including the Nissan Sentra, fell off CR’s “recommended” list for declining reliability ratings. Even though some older Nissan Rogue models have reliability problems, the new Rogue is expected to be dependable.
According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2023 Rogue has a reliability score of four out of five.
Other models with improved reliability
In addition to the Nissan Rogue, the CR team endorses a few other models in the “newly recommended” category. These reliable vehicles include the Audi Q3, Buick Enclave, Ford Escape Hybrid, Mini Cooper, and Subaru Ascent.
A couple of brands saw a few models make this list, too. For example, the Kia Seltos, Sorento Hybrid, and Soul are all on the recommended roster. The Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid also earned higher-than-average reliability.
Before purchasing a vehicle, checking out the latest CR reliability study results would be wise.
