1 Porsche Leads TrueCar’s List of the Most Expensive Electric Cars
The luxury electric car segment is heating up with a number of lavish entrants. Some of them include newcomers like the Lucid Air, the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan, the 2023 Audi RS e-Tron GT, and, of course, the Tesla Model S. TrueCar recently published a list of the “Most Expensive Electric Cars,” and surprisingly, there’s one Porsche that took the top spot.
Which Porsche is the most expensive electric car you can buy?
The most expensive electric car you can buy – aside from certain million-dollar electric hypercars – is the 2023 Porsche Taycan. According to TrueCar, “The most popular style is the GTS AWD, which starts at $135,550 and comes with an electric engine and all-wheel drive.” However, the Taycan GTS isn’t the only available trim level.
Including the wagon body style called the “Cross Turismo, there are 10 different Taycan models to choose from. The most expensive model, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, comes in at a sky-high retail price of around $191,450, which beats out plenty of other cars on TrueCar’s list.
For that price, buyers will get a four-door performance car that’s able to get up to an EPA-estimated 222 miles of range in addition to a 750-hp electric powertrain. With that kind of power, the Taycan Cross Turismo can shoot up to 60 mph from a standstill in only 2.7 seconds and up to a top speed of 155 mph.
However, since the top-trim Taycan could be too rich for most buyers’ blood, the far more-affordable base model retails for $86,700. That model is capable of going up to 242 miles on a single charge and pushes out 321 hp.
The Lucid Air’s pricing can get to stratospheric levels as well
The Lucid Air is the second-most-expensive electric vehicle you can buy. It’s a newcomer in the market and is currently available in four different trim levels. The most affordable one starts at around $89,050. However, that price can easily jump up to around $170,650 when the top-trim Grand Touring model is selected and optioned up.
Buyers will get the most performance out of that up-level model. The Lucid Air Grand Touring pumps out a whopping 1,050 hp, which enables it to scoot up to 60 mph from a standstill in three seconds. Not impressed yet? How does 516 miles of range sound? We know, we had a hard time believing it too.
Those wanting a more palatable price for the Lucid Air should pick the base-model Pure. It has a starting price of $87,400, a range of 410 miles, and a single-motor setup that produces 480 hp.
Two popular German automakers round out the top four electric cars on the list
The third-most-expensive electric car on the list is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan. We have a soft spot for this car as it provided the best driving experience for 2022 and took home one of our MotorBiscuit awards. Despite any accolades, the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan takes a high spot on TrueCar’s list due to its ability to get up to the $148,000 mark with all of the boxes checked. It’s expensive, but we think it’s worth it.
Coming in hot right underneath the Mercedes EQS is the 2023 Audi RS e-tron GT. This sporty electric car is perhaps the sleekest and most stunning car on the list. Although it provides comfortable seating for five, blistering performance, and an electric range of up to 238 miles, the RS e-tron GT commands a high price for all of those amenities. At the high end, buyers can pay up to around $148,000 for one of these electric luxury sports coupes.
