1 Reason to Choose the 2023 Ford Ranger XL Over Other Models
Within the 2023 Ford Ranger lineup, three trim levels vary in price and equipment. The XLT and Lariat trims are better for many because they’re slightly more expensive but offer many more features. However, there’s one significant reason to choose the 2023 Ford Ranger XL base model over other models. Even the cheapest version of the Ford midsize truck can have the best towing capacity in the Ranger lineup.
Choose the 2023 Ford Ranger XL for the towing capacity
The towing capacity is the primary reason to choose the 2023 Ford Ranger XL base model over other models. We don’t mean that Ford gave the midsize truck better capability when it costs less. We’re simply telling you that even the most inexpensive model can have the maximum tow rating. As a result, customers searching for ample towing capabilities don’t need to break the bank. Especially in the midsize truck segment, good towing is hard to find but even harder with the cheapest trim in the lineup.
According to Ford, the Ranger XL can have the Trailer Tow package. For just $495, the package upgrades the pickup’s maximum towing capacity to 7,500 pounds. Not only is that an amazing amount for a midsize model, but it’s the most any version of the vehicle can pull. If you pay $8,000 more for the Lariat model with the Trailer Tow package, the pickup still maxes out at 7,500 pounds. Why pay more when you don’t have to?
Ranger XL with the Trailer Tow package equipment
Although the package’s highlight is a better rating, the 2023 Ford Ranger XL gets more from the Trailer Tow option. For example, a four-pin/seven-pin wiring harness and a Class IV trailer hitch receiver. For $495, we think the package provides excellent value to customers. Additionally, all versions of the Ranger feature the same engine under the hood. A turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder can be found under any model, good for 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
Moreover, upgrading the XL trim to be as well-equipped as more costly models is easy. An available 101A package adds cruise control, power mirrors, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a larger screen, Sync 3 infotainment with Apple CarPlay, and more. The Co-Pilot360 safety package is also available for a fee, which adds automatic forward emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and lane-keeping assistance.
How much is the 2023 Ford Ranger XL?
According to Edmunds, the 2023 Ford Ranger XL without extra options starts at $30,080. The publication’s listed prices include fees added at checkout. Adding all-wheel drive and the Trailer Tow package boosts the starting price to $33,715. While the base model isn’t the height of luxury by any stretch of the imagination, it’s better than paying more for the same capability. For example, the range-topping Lariat model costs $37,955 but doesn’t include the towing package. Adding the option to maximize towing capacity makes the Ranger Lariat cost $41,655.
As a result, we don’t think buying a higher trim than the XL base model is worth it for towing. If fancy features and other equipment are essential to you, the XLT and Lariat trims are more viable. However, truck owners looking to maximize towing capacity with an affordable midsize truck would do well with the Ranger XL equipped with the Trailer Tow package.
