1 Shocking Model With Over 100,000 in Sales so Far This Year
There are hundreds of new car models on the market in 2023, but only a few of them have sold over 100,000 units so far this year. Several Toyota vehicles have smashed this sales goal, along with other consumer favorites from Honda and Ford. Thanks to a big sales boost compared to last year, all of these models face competition from yet another notable rival.
The Hyundai Tucson’s popularity continues to grow
Approximately 118,125 buyers have purchased a Hyundai Tucson this year, making the SUV 20% more popular than it was in 2022. It sold over 17,000 units in July alone, beating both the Honda Civic and the Ford Explorer. It only needs to sell about 60,000 more units to reach its 2022 sales total. At this point, we think the Hyundai Tucson will succeed with a sizable year-to-date sales increase.
The Tucson is still fresh from its redesign for the 2022 model year. It’s quite different from the previous generation, now featuring a 187-hp four-cylinder engine for each trim. Car and Driver reports that the Tucson could use a little more power, but still compared its ride to a luxury vehicle. The eight-speed automatic transmission received no complaints from test drivers.
This powertrain is also easy on gas, earning up to 28 mpg combined city/highway in the front-wheel-drive configuration. The exterior has a handsome and angular new appearance, while the interior features a new dashboard layout. There’s slightly more legroom for passengers this year because this Tucson has a longer wheelbase. The cargo hold has also expanded, now offering close to 39 cu-ft of storage area behind the second row.
Wireless smartphone integration is included alongside the standard 8-in infotainment touchscreen. You’ll have to settle for a wired setup if you want the 10.3-in screen, though this one also comes with navigation. The Hyundai Tucson SE has plenty of advanced safety features to set any driver at ease.
The priciest Limited trim features Hyundai’s latest version of adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology ideal for highway settings.
The Hyundai Tucson has some fierce competition
The Ford F-150 is still the best-selling vehicle in the United States, and now it’s about 25% more popular. It sold well over 200,000 units in the second quarter alone, while the Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500 were half as popular. In total, just over 451,000 Ford F-150 units have been sold this year.
The Toyota RAV4 is the most-preferred SUV for 2023 with 224,838 units sold. The Honda CR-V is currently pushing 200,000 sales for this year, while the Toyota Highlander’s sales totals are closer to 122,000.
The Nissan Rogue is actually more popular than the Toyota Highlander and the Hyundai Tucson. It has sold over 147,000 units so far in 2023, with massive sales increases for each month compared to 2022. The Nissan Rogue’s last redesigned model was released for the 2021 model year. However, the 2022 version got a new three-cylinder engine that could have reeled in some new buyers.
While GoodCarBadCar didn’t also include the Tesla Model Y on the main table, that SUV has moved a considerable amount of units.
The Hyundai Tucson has proven its worth
The Hyundai Tucson offers a balanced mix of value, good styling, and capability. Despite all of its standard features and upscale accommodations, the Tucson’s base price remains relatively low for this segment.
Its yearly sales gains reflect how much this car has improved, and the 2024 model will probably be even better.
