The most costly version of the 2023 GMC Canyon is more expensive than we imagined. A special edition version of the Canyon starts at over $66,000. The recently announced pricing for the new GMC pickup revealed an AT4X Edition 1 model that is more costly than any other GMC Canyon in years past. Does the midsize truck sound worth it? Or is this outrageous price too much for buyers?

The most overpriced model in the newly announced Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon lineups is the range-topping Canyon. New for the 2023 model year is a Canyon AT4X with an Edition 1 package for $66,290. According to Car and Driver, buyers get extra equipment like a light bar, Beadlock-capable wheels, skid plates, a winch, different bumpers, and special badges with the special edition truck. Dealerships are already taking reservations for the AT4X Edition 1 models, which will sit atop the lineup for GMC’s latest midsize pickup.

On the flip side, the most affordable 2023 GMC Canyon is just $38,095 for the base Elevation trim. The AT4X off-road model is also available for a much lower price without the Edition 1 package. C/D says it’s $56,995 for a standard AT4X. It remains an excellent off-road truck option, adding 10.7 inches of ground clearance because of a factory 3.0-inch lift and 33-inch mud-terrain tires. It also uses the Chevy Silverado’s turbocharged 2.6-liter inline-four, good for 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.

The Chevy Colorado is slightly more affordable

In addition to the new 2023 GMC Canyon pricing, General Motors announced the starting price for the Chevy Colorado. The two midsize trucks are near equivalents, sharing many features, engines, designs, and more. However, the Canyon is a bit more expensive than the Colorado, as it’s the “luxury” version of the two pickups. According to C/D, the new Colorado starts at $30,695 for the Work Truck model. It has rear-wheel drive and a 237-hp turbo-four engine. However, the Colorado has a few off-roading options, just like the Canyon.

First, the Trail Boss package trim level starts at $38,495 and adds a few off-roading features. For the 2022 model year, it contained 17-inch gloss-black wheels, black exterior trim, skid plates, and a 1-inch leveling kit. However, there’s also the Colorado ZR2, which is the more extreme off-road truck model in the lineup. It starts at $48,295, which is much more affordable than the Canyon AT4X or Edition 1. For the 2022 model year, the ZR2 trim came with a raised suspension, special dampers, larger all-terrain tires, fender flares, special front/rear bumpers, a spray-in bed liner, and an electronically locking rear differential. We expect the 2023 ZR2 equipment to be mostly or exactly the same.

A special edition 2023 GMC Canyon costs more than $66,000

In conclusion, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Edition 1 model costs over $66,000. As a result, it’s the most costly model from the Canyon and Chevy Colorado lineups. Since the GMC midsize truck is the luxury version, we expect it to be more costly. However, the AT4X Edition 1 is a bit overpriced, and models like the Colorado ZR2 make it difficult to spend so much. Is this new special edition 2023 GMC Canyon trim worth nearly $70,000?
