Only 1 Tesla Model Has a Driving Range Over 400 Miles
Tesla vehicles have many positive attributes, including beautiful designs, world-class performance, and state-of-the-art technologies. However, like many electric cars, the driving range of Teslas is lower than most gas-powered vehicles. There is one Tesla that gets a respectable range, though: the Model S sports sedan. It’s the only one currently available that has a driving range of over 400 miles
Tesla Model S has the highest driving range of any Tesla electric car currently available
Low driving range is a common concern about electric cars. As a result, some drivers experience “range anxiety,” or the fear of running out of battery power before an electric car can make it back home or reach a charging station.
However, with the respectable range of the Telsa Model S, this concern is mostly alleviated. With an estimated driving range of up to 405 miles, the Model S has the highest driving range of any Tesla electric car currently available. The 405-mile range is for the Base trim, while the high-performance Plaid trim has a range of up to 396 miles.
Here are the maximum driving ranges of available Tesla models:
- Tesla Model S: 405 miles
- Tesla Model 3: 358 miles
- Tesla Model X: 351 miles
- Tesla Model Y: 330 miles
The next-best Tesla vehicle for driving range is the Model 3 sports sedan. This is followed by Model X SUV and the Model Y crossover SUV. All Tesla models can be charged via Telsa’s extensive network of Supercharger stations.
The high driving range of the Model S can be credited to its efficient electric powertrain. It gets an estimated efficiency rating of up to 124 city/115 MPGe. Also, it has a sleek and aerodynamic design — with a drag coefficient of just .208 Cd. This is the lowest amount of drag for a production car.
Model S is also the fastest Tesla vehicle
In addition to its high driving range, the Tesla Model S is the fastest Tesla vehicle. Prospective buyers can get it equipped with a tri-motor system (Plaid), which generates an impressive 1,020 horsepower. The powerful motors enable the Model S Plaid to reach a top speed of 200 mph and complete the 0-60 mph sprint in 1.99 seconds.
The Model S also offers a less expensive dual-motor version (Base). It has a top speed of 149 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds.
Not-yet-released Cybtertruck and second-generation Roadster will have a higher driving range
The Model S has the best driving range of any Tesla electric car currently available. However, Elon Musk and Tesla claim that two long-awaited models will have an even higher range: the Cybertruck and the second-generation Roadster.
They claim that the Cybertuck will have a range of up to 500 miles. And, for the second-generation Roadster, it’s even higher, with a range of up to 620 miles. The Cybertruck and Roadster have experienced significant delays, and neither model has an official release date. Both the Cybertruck and Roadster are slated to start production in 2023, though.
However, if you want to get the Tesla with the highest driving range right now, then the best option is the Model S. With its efficient electric powertrain and aerodynamic design, it’s the only currently available Tesla car that exceeds the 400-mile driving range mark.
