1 Thing Saves the 2024 Toyota Tundra From Being Dead Last
It’s unfortunate to see the Toyota Tundra take a tumble in various rankings, but it isn’t in last place yet. It has time to make a few improvements before it faces the bottom of the barrel. But until the 2025 model arrives, the 2024 Toyota Tundra could struggle.
Is the 2024 Toyota Tundra the worst truck?
No, the 2024 Toyota Tundra isn’t the worst truck. It actually has stout benefits to consider such as a brawny hybrid engine, modern tech that’s very intuitive, and a stylish cabin with comfortable amenities.
According to U.S.News, the 2023 Nissan Titan is the worst full-size truck as it sits in last place on the list of the best options. It came in sixth place with a score of 7.2, while the 2024 Toyota Tundra sits in fifth place with a score of 7.7.
But the Titan is being discontinued, so the Tundra won’t be able to use it as a crutch for much longer. Without necessary improvements to fight American rivals, it could drop down to last place.
The Tundra outranks the Titan because it’s more modern, with a better ride quality and more upscale cabin materials. The Titan was last redesigned in 2015, so it’s simply too dated to compete, despite having a robust standard V8 engine.
Also, the 2023 Ford F-150 and 2024 Ram 1500 are tied for the first-place spot with a score of 8.9 out of 10. Once the new 2024 F-150 model is judged based on performance, interior quality, safety, fuel economy, reliability, and critic ratings, it could take the lead.
What are some potential 2024 Tundra drawbacks to consider?
The 2024 Toyota Tundra received a lower ranking because it can’t tow or haul as much as its rivals. When properly equipped, the Tundra can tow up to 12,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,940 lbs.
With the 2024 Ram 1500, you can tow up to 12,750 lbs and carry a payload of up to 2,231 lbs. The 2023 Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs and carry a max payload of up to 3,315 lbs.
Also, the Tundra may feel cramped. The rear seat isn’t as spacious as the back seat of the Ram 1500. The F-150 offers more cargo space with an extra compartment above the glove box and under-seat storage.
The Ram 1500 is still the class leader regarding ride quality. It’s smoother with a quieter interior. However, the current Tundra is much more comfortable than the outgoing generation. Its ride is mostly jitter-free.
While the Tundra is rated to get an EPA-estimated 18 mph in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway, most fuel testing comes up short. We got about 15.4 mpg in the city and never go above 20 mpg on the highway.
What’s new for the 2024 Tundra?
The 2024 Toyota Tundra is primarily a carryover model. It was just redesigned in 2022, so it’s still fresh and modern.
Some notable trim shuffling includes the standard 12-inch infotainment screen on the Limited trim, and the TRD Pro Package is available with the Platinum model.
You can add a 3.0-inch factory-installed lift kit to any model except for the TRD Pro, which has a specific suspension setup. Also, the Nightshade package adds sleek black trim pieces.
The 2024 Tundra is certainly worth buying with its smooth transmission shifts and athletic performance. The tech is modern, and the interior features an attractive style.
It does fall short compared to rivals and could be in last place soon. Do you think it deserves to be at the bottom of the list?
