1 Unlikely Truck Ousts Toyota Land Cruiser as Most Durable Vehicle
There has been a major development in the world of longest-lasting vehicles. The Toyota Land Cruiser, which has long been the number one most reliable SUV, has been replaced by a pickup truck. That’s right, the most durable vehicle for 2023 is a Ford truck, and the indestructible Toyota sport utility vehicle has fallen in the rankings. Not to be dramatic, but which truck pulled this off to take the spot of the most durable vehicle?
What is the most durable car brand for 2023?
The Ford F-350 Super Duty bumped the Toyota Land Cruiser from the top spot of the most durable vehicle for this year. If you guessed that iSeeCars was back with another study for the longest-lasting vehicles, you were right. One thing that you might not have seen coming was the Super Duty dethroning the Land Cruiser.
The Toyota Land Cruiser has been the longest-lasting vehicle on the list for the past few years, and it still has a 47.9% chance of lasting 250,000 miles or more. That is 4.1 times the amount the average vehicle might last. But the big news is that the Ford F-350 Super Duty has a 49.1% chance of lasting 250,000 miles or more. That is 4.2 times the amount that the average vehicle might last, making it the most durable vehicle on the list.
Oddly enough, 10 of the top 23 vehicles are pickup trucks for this year. Previously, it was a mix of SUVs and trucks. Many SUVs are still on the list, but the longest-lasting vehicles include some trucks that might have been overlooked. The Land Cruiser remains the most reliable SUV even if the F-350 is the most reliable truck, so don’t take its trophy just yet.
Toyota has the most durable vehicles on the list
Eight of those 23 durable vehicles come from Toyota, down from 10 last year. It has the most options on the list, including the famed Land Cruiser. Just behind that are the Toyota Tundra truck and Sequoia SUV, with more than a 47% chance of hitting 250,000 miles. That is four times the number of the average vehicle, which only has an 11.8% chance of hitting 250,000 miles.
Rank | Model | % Chance of Lasting 250,000+ Miles | Compared to Average |
1 | Ford F-350 Super Duty | 49.1% | 4.2x |
2 | Toyota Land Cruiser | 47.9% | 4.1x |
3 | Toyota Tundra | 47.9% | 4.1x |
4 | Toyota Sequoia | 47.1% | 4.0x |
5 | Ford F-250 Super Duty | 43.6% | 3.7x |
6 | Honda Pilot | 42.7% | 3.6x |
7 | Toyota Tacoma | 41.7% | 3.5x |
8 | GMC Sierra 2500HD | 41.3% | 3.5x |

10 | Toyota 4Runner | 41.0% | 3.5x |

“Vehicle lifespans continue to grow, with more than 20 cars now having a 20 percent or better chance of lasting at least a quarter million miles,” iSeeCars.com Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said. Following the three Toyota trucks and SUVs, Ford’s F-250 Super Duty proved to be a durable option. Many of the most reliable SUVs are still from Toyota, with Honda in a close second.
Heavy-duty trucks are making a lasting impression
This study also showed that vehicles last longer than ever, surpassing the original 200,000-mile benchmark. These days, the average truck has a 25.9% chance of making it to 250,000 miles or more. Nine of the options on the list are above that average, and most are heavy-duty models.
The good news is that Ford and Toyota have once again proven that these brands have some of the most durable vehicles and longest-lasting vehicles on the market. In a time where reliability is everything to buyers, this is a good trophy to put on the shelf. The most reliable truck for 2023 is from Ford, and Toyota is right behind with plenty of other options.
