Because Hyundai is a mass-market brand, its cars provide comfort and reliability at an affordable price point. That’s especially true for one used Hyundai sedan, the 2014 Sonata. It checks all of those boxes for less than $15,000.

U.S. News heaps praise on the 2014 Hyundai Sonata, ranking third of 17 affordable midsize sedans. This used Hyundai sedan costs around $12,000 to $15,000. In addition, it has a powerful engine and a pleasant interior.

The base engine in the 2014 Sonata is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder making 190 hp. That’s considerable power for a midsize car. The South Korean automaker also offered a more potent option, a 2.0-liter turbo-four-cylinder harnessing 274 hp. That’s enough power to compete with a V6.

These engines are not only powerful but also relatively fuel efficient. The standard version gets 24 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway for 30 mpg combined. The turbocharged variation gets 21 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway for 27 mpg combined.

This Sonata model also handles well, though it’s no sports car.

How is this used Hyundai sedan comfortable?

One quality that makes this midsize sedan comfortable is its excellent ride. The six-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and the car doesn’t exhibit noticeable body sway in turns and corners. Furthermore, the car’s interior boasts high-quality materials.

Kelley Blue Book gives the 2014 Sonata a 4.5 out of 5 for comfort. KBB even calls the interior “a work of art.” The cabin looks attractive, the seating is spacious, and the legroom is plentiful.

The car also touts many creature comforts, but shoppers shouldn’t expect the same high-tech features found in a brand-new Sonata. For example, some 2014 models have heated rear seats.

The 2014 Hyundai Sonata is reliable too

The 2014 Sonata earned good reliability ratings from J.D. Power and Kelley Blue Book. J.D. Power awarded the midsize sedan a 4 out of 5, and KBB experts gave it a 4.6 out of 5. Owners were even more generous, giving this used Hyundai sedan a perfect 5 out of 5 in reliability on KBB. Kelley Blue Book says that score is “far above average” for the segment.

In addition, one significant benefit of Hyundai cars is their generous warranty. Hyundai’s coverage is usually superior to what other automakers offer. However, it’s likely not useful for used car shoppers. The 2014 Sonata is almost a decade old, so the original warranty likely doesn’t apply anymore.
