When the best-selling pickup manufacturer sets out to dominate yet another truck category, you know it’s going to be good. And the F-150 is welcoming a new family member with the introduction of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. This all-electric pickup is already showing off its impressive roster of extras, capabilities, and revolutionary tech.

But with all of those options, cab configuration isn’t one of them. The new Ford F-150 Lightning is available only in one cab style. And considering everything else this ultra-cool truck offers, you probably won’t mind.

What cab style does the 1 Ford F-150 Lightning have?

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning certainly won’t replace the traditional F-150. Instead, this introduction launches the automaker’s electric contribution. MotorTrend reports that the Lightning will offer four trims from which to choose: the base model, the popular XLT, the Lariat, and the Platinum.

And though you’ll have a host of other options and available equipment to consider, one decision has been made for you. The Ford F-150 Lightning will be available only in a four-door SuperCrew cab configuration with a 5.5-foot truck bed, The Verge notes. 

Other F-150 configurations

Anyone familiar with the Ford F-150 lineup knows it offers varying cab styles and bed lengths from which to choose. This wildly popular truck’s gas-powered versions usually offer a regular cab, the SuperCab, and the SuperCrew. The traditional F-150 also offers 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8.0-foot bed lengths.

You also get a choice among six trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. So, while the Ford F-150 Lightning follows suit in some of these offerings, it offers fewer trims and determines cab style and bed length for you.

The Ford F-150 Lightning’s unique design elements

Ford didn’t set out to design something crazy-looking, like a boxy Cybertruck. Instead, the Ford F-150 Lightning offers a unique look that’s slightly Mustang Mach-E and very much a recognizable F-150. And the sleek body style isn’t the only innovative design element.

Ford suggests its new electric pickup will harness 563 horses and jump from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 4.4 seconds. That’s even faster than the last Raptor model MotorTrend clocked at 5.2 seconds. And there’s even more impressiveness inside the Ford F-150 Lightning.

Over-the-air updates are a reality with the F-150 Lightning, including updated information on charging, better mapping, and enhancements to BlueCruise. Expect a 15.5-inch touchscreen with user-friendly access to all the apps and tech, too.

What we know today that we didn’t know before

Most automotive critics have offered estimates and predictions over the past few months about what consumers can expect from the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. What we know now is that this pickup will be affordable, with a $41,669 starting MSRP.

It will comfortably seat five and come ready to work with a max payload of 2,000 pounds. It will also tow up to 10,000 pounds and deliver a driving range of about 300 miles on the extended battery. However, the standard battery will offer 230 miles on a single charge. Also, expect a full spare tire, standard all-wheel drive, and off-road skid plates.

Ford is clearly taking the EV trend seriously with the Ford F-150 Lightning’s launch. You, like most critics, will likely be impressed with the sleek styling, robust capability, and hefty roster of options. And even though you can’t choose a cab configuration, you probably won’t mind considering everything else this pickup offers.
