With the recent supply shortage issues, many dealerships nationwide have raised prices on car models that are in short supply. And just like any other business, the automotive industry works on a “supply and demand” model. This means that when certain models are in short supply, the demand for them goes way up.
According to Kelley Blue Book, this short supply for some models, followed by the large demand, has spurred dealers to mark up prices by as much as 12% over MSRP. Surprisingly, many car buyers have agreed to pay this hefty sum in order to get into the car they want. Here are 10 of those car models that buyers are willing to pay over MSRP for.
2021 BMW M3 and M4
Apparently, BMW buyers like the enlarged nostrils on the BMW M3 and M4 if they’re willing to pay over the $70,000 starting price for each. We can’t blame them considering both cars are powered by a twin-turbo, inline-six that produces 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
According to Car and Driver, the transmission exudes “satisfying shifts” and the engine has a smooth power delivery. Couple that with some agile handling, and you have yourself a true German sports coupe or sedan.
2022 Acura MDX
The Acura MDX is the best-selling three-row SUV of all time, according to MotorTrend. That being the case, it’s not too surprising that many buyers are willing to pay over $50,000 for one. The main reason the 2022 model is so popular is that the MDX was completely redesigned and now boasts a new look, new tech, and a refined engine.
