The horsepower wars are continuing into the age of EVs and electrification. Numerous stock cars and EVs you can buy are blitzing the previously unattainable horsepower benchmarks. CarBuzz says there are several cars and a monstrous EV truck with chart-topping horsepower figures. Here are 10 cars with over 1,000 hp available from the factory.
The Ferrari SF90 is a worthy addition to one of the recognizable badges in the world
The brilliantly styled Ferrari SF90 only just qualifies for this list. According to CarBuzz, the Italian stallion makes 986 hp due primarily to supplemental electrification. The three electric motors are married to a 4.0-liter V8 and two enthusiastic turbos. Although the SF90 is at the beginning of this list, it is still one of the quickest, with a frightening 2.5-second sprint to 62 mph.
GMC Hummer EV is a mammoth with organ-shifting acceleration
The GMC Hummer EV is a mind-blowing monster, nothing short of mold-breaking. GMC’s new behemoth weighs in at over 9,000 lbs and reaches 60 mph in around 3 seconds. The three-motor application in the reborn Hummer makes 1,000 hp and a stratospheric 11,500 lb-ft of torque.
Mercedes-AMG One is a mysterious maybe on this list of heavy hitters
The already sold-out Mercedes-AMG is an example of Formula 1 inspiration in a road-going hypercar. CarBuzz says that the racing game Forza Horizon 5 discovered in early testing that the car produced 877 horsepower, but the final figures are not yet available. Either way, this plug-in hybrid hypercar will be a riotous machine.
Tesla Model S Plaid is ludicrously fast
The idea that a car with room for the whole family can outrun some of the fastest cars in the world is hilarious. The Tesla Model S Plaid is just that, a family EV with 1,020 horsepower on tap. Tesla claims that the sedan will leap to 60 mph in less than 2 seconds.
The Lucid Air should have Tesla on high alert
While the Lucid Air is not quite as quick as the Tesla Model S Plaid, it can go further without stopping. According to Lucid, the Air will cover 520 miles on a single charge. The Air also produces more power than the Tesla, with 1,111 hp propelling the large car to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds.
The Bugatti Chiron is still an absolute beast with well over 1,000 hp
Bugatti is no stranger to topping performance lists. The Chiron is yet another big motor Bugatti with outright speed as a goal. An 8.0-liter W16 with four turbochargers is the beast’s beating heart, making an incredible 1,479 horsepower. Bugatti also has a Chiron Super Sport that produces 1,577 horsepower if the Chiron is not enough.
Koenigsegg Gemera is a lightning bolt with four seats
The Swedish company Koenigsegg has been smashing records and creating out-of-this-world hypercars for quite some time now. The Koenigsegg Gemera is no different, with a revolutionary camshaft-less twin-turbo three-cylinder engine and three electric motors. That incredible engineering means the Gemera produces 1,727 horsepower and will sprint to 62 mph in just 1.9 seconds. The hypercar will likely reach its top speed of 248 mph as fast as you can say Koenigsegg Gemera three times.
The Hennessey Venom F5 is a big motor missile
The last internal combustion engine contender on this list is no joke. A screaming 1,817 horsepower twin-turbo 6.6-liter V8 powers the Texas-born Hennessey Venom F5. Pair the staggering horsepower with the ultra-lightweight carbon fiber construction, and Hennessey claims the car will reach 311 mph.
Rimac Nevera is a Croatian lunatic with nearly 2,000 horsepower
This part of the list is where things get out of hand. Croatian manufacturer Rimac‘s latest EV is the Nevera, an elegantly styled electric hypercar. The Rimac Nevera makes no less than 1,914 horsepower and can reach 60 mph in a blistering 1.85 seconds.
The Lotus Evija might just be the most outstanding electric flex thus far
The Lotus Evija is a twin electric motor hypercar, and with 1,972 horsepower, it’s not surprising that the Lotus is at the top of the list. If the Evija’s horsepower figures are not enough of a flex, the limited-run car has a price tag of $2.2 million. If Evija’s outrageous performance is any indication of the future, the future is electric and very, very fast.
