The family car, the passenger car, the sedan. It doesn’t matter what you call it, it’s still one of the most popular vehicles on the road. With room to comfortably seat a family or a carpool group, the sedan continues to make sense. But just how many years can one get out of a sedan? 

Based on a recent study conducted by iSeeCars.com, here is a list of the 10 sedans purchased new that drivers keep the longest. 

10.  Mercedes Benz S-Class

Many people look at the Mercedes Benz as the ultimate in car ownership. Also available as a convertible or a coupe, the S-Class sedan earned the tenth spot on this list. Owners hold on to these cars for 8.9 years on average.   

9.  Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla has been in the US since 1969. It was the first Toyota to be built in America, beginning in 1985. After 50 years, it continues to be popular with drivers all across the board. Drivers generally keep them for an average of 9.0 years. 

8.  Honda Civic

The Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla continue to battle on many counts, but on this one, the Honda wins. People keep their Civics for about 9.1 years. It is one of the most popular compact sedans in the road.

 7.  Nissan Maxima

The Nissan Maxima continues to hold its own in the sporty full-size sedan category. It attracts buyers who want the room of a four-door car, but like a car with a status symbol air about it. Owners hang on to their Maximas of 9.2 years. 

6.  Mercedes Benz E-class

The Mercedes Benz E-class is made up of a sedan, a coupe, and a convertible, and the sedan proves to be one that drivers keep. E-class sedan owners hold on for 9.3 years. It is a comfort-biased vehicle.

5.  Ford Taurus

The Ford Taurus has been around for a while. It has been a popular choice for those desiring a no-nonsense, roomy car with a comfortable ride. Although production of the Taurus has ended, people who drive them have kept them for about 9.4 years total.

4.  Honda Accord

Since its inception, the Honda Accord has grown in popularity and continued to hold a spot among the best American family cars. It boasts driver-friendly handling and a fun-to-drive nature all at once. Drivers keep them for 9.4 years.

3.  Toyota Camry

If part of a competition with Honda, in this case, the Toyota comes out ahead. Owners keep the Toyota Camry for 9.5 years. Available in a variety of trims, it is modestly priced and fuel-efficient. 

2.  BMW 3-Series

The BMW 3-series sedan was redesigned for 2019 to have more room, more rigidity, and less weight. Considered by BMW to be an iconic sports sedan, it continues to be a popular choice for those looking to get into or continue a tradition of owning a BMW. When purchased new, owners tend to keep them for an average of 9.5 years. 

1.  Toyota Avalon

When it comes to sedans that people keep the longest, the Toyota Avalon is number one. Drivers report keeping their Avalons for an average of 9.7 years, meaning they must be happy with them.
