Shopping for pickup trucks in today’s market often reveals steep dollar amounts on new models. While used truck prices provide some relief, there’s always the possibility of picking a truck with many issues. Here’s a look at recalls and various issues for 10 used trucks.
1. 2015 Ford F-150
The 2015 Ford F-150 has 13 NHTSA recalls for “problems with the suspension, engine, forward collision avoidance, steering, service brakes, seat belts, structure, latches, and locks.” Consumer Reports also received frequent owner-reported complaints for fuel system and exhaust problems.
2. 2003 Ram 1500
At 20 years old, the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 is the oldest truck on the list, with 12 NHTSA recalls involving airbags, engine cooling, equipment, exterior lighting, service brakes, steering, vehicle speed control, visibility, and wheels. Additionally, the truck received dismal reliability and owner satisfaction scores from Consumer Reports.
3. 2004 Ford F-150
The popular Ford F-150 regularly ranks near the top of full-size truck comparisons. However, the 2004 F-150 is under 16 separate NHTSA recalls, including nine for exterior lighting, four for the gasoline fuel system, and one each for airbags, equipment, and vehicle speed control.
4. 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
With 16 NHTSA recalls, the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 also has issues with failing fuel tank pressure sensors and rusting brake lines. 6. 2006 Nissan Titan
The NHTSA lists seven recalls for the 2006 Nissan Titan for issues involving the truck’s equipment, electrical and fuel systems, engine and engine cooling, suspension, and rear door latch. It also gets a low score for poor fuel economy.
7. 2014 GMC Sierra 1500
While newer GMC Sierra 1500s enjoy above-average J.D. Power predicted reliability scores, the 2014 Sierra 1500 gets a poor reliability rating from Consumer Reports. Additionally, this model is also subject to 16 NHTSA recalls, according to Cars.com, that include seat belts, electronic stability control, service brakes, electrical system, equipment, airbags, steering, seats, and powertrain problems.
8. 2004 Nissan Titan
Consumer Reports gives the 2004 Nissan Titan its lowest fuel economy and owner satisfaction scores, and the NHTSA lists seven recalls for the two-door model. Items under recall include the electrical system, engine, equipment, powertrain, seat belts, and suspension.
9. 2012 Toyota Tundra
The 2012 Toyota Tundra has only four recalls and a four-star overall NHTSA safety rating. This consists of potential oil leaks and fuel system problems.
10. 2007 Toyota Tundra
