Vehicle manufacturing is slowly getting back to normal after three years of chaos, price increases, and car buying consumers are paying way over MSRP for hot new cars. And with this comes prices stabilizing. Except when a dealer chooses to markup prices. Unfortunately, there are still cars that either due to stymied production or popularity, dealers are marking up beyond MSRP. 

Some call them “stealerships,” but call them what you will, certain models are seeing consistent dealership markups. Overall, new vehicles are getting 8.8% dealer markups added onto their MSRP. iSeeCars is charting which cars are bringing extra dollars beyond their list price, from February 2023. So here are the top vehicles dealerships jack the prices of.

Genesis GV70

The Genesis GV70 tops this unenviable list. Dealers on average are tacking on 27.5% above the list price. We’re curious why it sees this amount of markup with the larger and more luxurious GV80 starting around $12,000 more than the GV70. But not to be left out of the markup parade, the GV80 is further down on the list with an average of 21% tacked onto it. 

Jeep Wrangler

The first of two Jeep Wranglers in the Top 10, the Wrangler gets 23.9% markups on average. For a $35,827 MSRP, dealers sell Wranglers priced just shy of $44,400. Whether it is popularity or scarcity, that’s an incredible price hike for an SUV that sells most years over 200,000. All of those used Wranglers should keep a lid on rollaway prices but obviously don’t.

Mercedes-Benz GLB

Another surprising model found on iSeeCars’ list is the Mercedes-Benz GLB. This is Mercedes’ smallest SUV, which you can almost call a hatchback. Dealer markups are averaging 22.9% over sticker price. This increases the price to over $50,000.

Porsche Taycan

Porsche dealers are adding 22.7% to the prices of Taycan EVs. While barely breaking the $100,000 barrier at the list price, those same models go out the door at almost $123,000. Being as exclusive as it is, with barely 7,250 sold last year, the supply is low while demand obviously is high.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Wrangler Unlimited SUVs on average are selling for 21.9% above MSRP. Needless to say, all versions of the Wrangler are hugely popular. The extra size and seating for five surely add to its continuing demand.

Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V

Cadillac’s four-banger CT4-V performance sedan with 325 hp is in enough demand to have dealers tacking 21.1% onto the MSRP. Being the smallest in Cadillac’s lineup means it is also the least expensive. But the increase puts it way past the base price of its larger sibling the CT5-V, which comes in the ninth spot with a 20.3% markup. 

Porsche Macan

The second Porsche on the list, the Macan SUV is seeing average increases of 20.6% by dealers. It’s the most popular Porsche made, with average sales of over 22,000 each year. So in general, all new cars from Porsche are selling for prices above MSRP.

Lexus RX 350h

Bottoming out this list is the Lexus RX 350h, one of the company’s newest models. For that reason, the fully redesigned SUV is very popular, which is why dealers are not shy about adding 20.3% to the list price.
