A Ford sedan is not a rare sight; chances are you saw a handful on the way to work or school this morning. However, that popularity is for a good reason. The model is one of Ford’s cheapest used sedans, with seating for five and hybrid options. Moreover, iSeeCars says a 10-year-old Ford Fusion, like a 2012 and 2013 model, is an example of a good buy with a generous lifespan and affordable used car price. 

How much is a 10-year-old Fusion?

A 10-year-old Ford Fusion has an average used car price of around $10,079. According to iSeeCars, that puts the Fusion at around $5,823 below the average for vehicles of comparable age. Further, the 2012 model rides on the CD3 platform, while the 2013 model updated to the CD4. As a result, fans can choose between the two.

Moreover, iSeeCars says that a Fusion from that timeframe costs around $119 per 1,000 miles of ownership. That puts the Ford model in eighth place on the list of the best 10-year-old cars for the money. Furthermore, the Fusion takes fifth in the sedans and hatchbacks segment. The closest competitor for the Ford sedan is the Honda Accord, which has a $1 cheaper operating cost per 1,000 miles but costs about $3,358 more to purchase. 

How long can a Ford Fusion last?

A 10-year-old Ford Fusion could last between 200,000 and 300,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. 

However, iSeeCars’ study indicates that the Ford model has a potential lifespan of about 201,071. Still, that’s not the maximum distance a 10-year-old model can cover, but an average odometer reading for some high mileage examples. In fact, Karl Brauer, an executive analyst at iSeeCars, says that most of the vehicles in the study can hit 200,000 miles with tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of miles to go. Moreover, many of these models on used car retail websites have already covered over 250,000 miles. 

Is a used Ford Fusion a reliable car?

The 2012 Ford Fusion is of average reliability, but it’s not without problems. For instance, the 2012, 2013, and 2014 Ford Fusions are prone to transmission problems like jerky, hesitant shifts. 

According to Carcomplaints.com, the Ford model has many owner-reported steering issues, including instances of power assist steering failures. Of course, Ford redesigned the sedan in 2013, and that model year had more customer complaints related to engine issues like stalls.  

When did Ford stop making the Fusion?

Ford discontinued its Fusion sedan in 2020. Unfortunately, the departure of the Fusion, Focus, and Focus Electric marks the end of the automaker’s four-door sedans for the American market. The Ford Mustang is the only car left in the marque’s lineup. 

What car did Ford replace the Fusion with?
