Leaked documents just revealed a number of outrageous C8 Corvettes planned for the near future. One of them is called “Zora” after the father of the Corvette Zora Arkus-Duntov and will feature 1,000 hp. This will be the most expensive and exclusive Corvette available once it is available. But, it was meant to arrive in 2025. Now with delays galore from the coronavirus lockdowns, it is not expected until the latter half of the decade.

The Corvette delay order was leaked to Hagerty Insurance which is why this info is available now. Besides what is on the list below the convertible version of the C8 Corvette may not make it into production in 2020. So, a lot of the plans for the mid-engine Corvette have now been delayed. 

GM is saying there are no plans to cancel any programs in the works before lockdown

At least for now, GM is saying there are no plans to cancel any programs that were in the works before the lockdown. It is also saying that near-term programs like the full-size SUVs from Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac as well as its EV programs “will see little or no impact.”

The drivetrain will be a combo gas and electric hybrid system. A twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 will be paired with at least one electric motor. Best guesses are that the electric motor will drive the front wheels, not the rear.

All of these Corvette variants will be delayed another year from original launch

Most of these Corvette variants will now be delayed. Going down the line they are the ZR-1, which will be powered by a naturally aspirated 850 hp V8. Next is the Z06 Corvette. This will have a 650 hp V8 that is a detuned version of the twin-cam ZR-1 engine. It was slated for 2022. A 600 hp Grand Sport will feature a gas and electric hybrid combo. It was to be available in 2023. You can expect that these original arrival dates will be pushed back by one year. Bummer!

In spite of where the country will be at after the lockdowns are lifted Chevy seems to be all-in with ever more powerful Corvettes. Indications are that the economy may be in for a major recession which could also alter Chevy’s Corvette plans. It is hoped that the economy bounces back enough that there will be enough money floating around to make these future Corvettes a reality.
