The North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards for 2020 are out and these are the nominees for best SUVs in the utility category. You might notice some of the same names as noted on this list of Best Midsize SUVs.

Audi E-Tron

The only all-electric SUV offered by Audi, this spacious all-wheel drive was awarded top safety pick by IIHS in 2019. With 204 mile estimated EPA range and fast 150 kW DC charging you can go farther, faster with this sophisticated battery. With most single trip journeys being under 50 miles, Audi is promoting their claim of being able to go 54 miles on only a 10 minute charge.  

Cadillac XT6

Base models starting at $52,695, Cadillac is bringing luxury to the SUV genre. While providing seven passenger seating, 78.7 cubic feet cargo space and plenty of third-row headroom, this is a great vehicle for toting family and friends in style. 

Chevrolet Blazer

Car and Driver notes that the 2020 Blazer distinguishes itself from the average crossover by its “sporty driving characteristics”. Some major changes from last year’s model include a 230-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with as much as 308 hp for its V6. 

Ford Escape

The Escape is making the grade for those concerned with fuel economy while driving a utility vehicle. 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway makes for a very economic average of 30 mpg according to Motor1. For the even thriftier consumer, a hybrid version is planned for release spring of 2020. 

Ford Explorer

This upcoming year’s model is a “huge improvement over the old one”, writes Car and Driver. The transformation is a lot more substantial that it appears superficially by its longitudinally-mounted engine and standard rear-wheel drive. This makes it more comparable to the construction of a luxury SUV and not the truck-based SUV as in former years. 

Honda Passport

Topspeed rates this sporty SUV as perfect for small families or for couples on the go. Although smaller than the Pilot, it has more cargo space than its big brother. It comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 and 20-inch wheels, giving you a lot for your money. 

Hyundai Palisade

Giving this vehicle an 8.5 overall rating, CNET states that this is a “surprise-and-delight SUV loaded with luxury, tech and safety features”. 

Kia Telluride

Heavy duty capabilities in a sleek package, the Telluride can tow up to 5,000 lbs. AWD modes such as Snow Mode and Lock mode provide improved handling on the most challenging of surfaces on or off-road. It’s no wonder that the Telluride came out the winner when compared with this other popular SUV.

Lincoln Aviator

Rated as an excellent highway cruiser by Edmunds due to its “plush interior and improved cabin noise management”, this could be the luxury SUV of the year. For those looking for better fuel economy, there is a plug-in hybrid model of the Aviator available. 

Lincoln Corsair

This “luxurious compact crossover” brings state-of-the-art technology to the driver’s seat. The tech offerings of this vehicle include a 360-degree camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, Steering, Park and Brake Assist, Speed Sign Recognition and more. 

Subaru Outback

Although this year’s Outback may look similar to the previous year’s model, Cars.com sets the record straight by claiming the 2020 to be the best one that Subaru has ever made. Updated platform and suspension paired with improved powertrain gives this SUV the feel of a luxury vehicle. 

Volvo V60 Cross Country

J.D. Power tested this model in the Canadian Rockies to see what it could do off-road. A new 2.5-inch ride height increase brings ground clearance up an additional 0.4 inches. Off-road driving mode combined with hill descent control add weight to the cross-country name.
