The Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder is without a doubt one of the best-selling supercars of the early 2000s. Even famous Chef Guy Fieri bought one of these Lamborghini models finished in Giallo Halys. However, one teenager in 2011 decided he would rather have the supercar instead.

According to ABC7 News, the teen rappelled into a dealership showroom from the roof. The thief even took off Fieri’s novelty “GUYTORO” license plate in exchange for a set stolen off of another car.

As you might imagine, stealing a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder out of a showroom takes plenty of calculated preparation. According to ABC7 News, this story began one night in 2011 as a 16-year-old rappelled from the roof onto a window in a Lamborghini showroom. Once inside, the teenager found the keys to Guy Fieri’s Gallardo Spyder.

Surveillance footage given to ABC7 News shows the teenager driving the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder through the showroom. Eventually, a set of bolt cutters broke the lock securing the main garage door. Once outside, the teen quickly drove off. According to ABC7 News, the teen even took off Fieri’s novelty “GUYTORO” plates in exchange for ones stolen off another vehicle. This made the stolen car much harder to track down.

Unfortunately, the teenager was well prepared and knew exactly how to hide the Lamborghini so that police couldn’t find it.

Part of what makes this stolen Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder story so interesting is that the teen was exceptionally well-prepared for the heist. According to ABC7 News, the teen allegedly looked up how to rappel, pick locks, and how to disable the car’s anti-theft device. Additionally, the suspect knew every detail of the dealership, making it easy to escape with the supercar.

Despite being an excellent thief, the suspect was still a teenager. As a result, ABC7 News found that the teenager took pictures posing with the stolen Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder to show his friends. Unfortunately, police reportedly weren’t able to make an arrest with just these leads. Part of this had to do with the fact that the car was stored away at a storage facility. Since the suspect utilized a fake ID to rent out the unit, it was almost impossible to find the car.

Unfortunately, this car thief was later involved in a non-fatal shooting involving two other teenagers. Following this incident, police began cracking down on his whereabouts.

How did the police recover the stolen Lamborghini?

After that shooting incident, the teenage suspect allegedly texted a friend wanting to meet up. ABC7 News reports that the suspect offered to pick her up in the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. The text message landed in the police’s hands, and they decided to arrange a meetup posing as the other teenager. The suspect was subsequently caught at the storage unit trying to take the supercar for a spin.

Aside from the stolen car, the storage locker contained evidence from other crimes the teen had allegedly committed. As a result, the teen was arrested, and the supercar was found in one piece.
