Tall drivers often struggle to find vehicles where they can feel comfortable rather than cramped. This struggle can be especially acute if a driver wants to purchase a smaller, more manageable SUV. Luckily, it’s not impossible to find a small SUV that allows ample room for the taller driver. Honda makes two of the best small SUVs for tall drivers.

Even small SUVs can feel big

While finding a small SUV that’s comfortable for a taller person might seem challenging, it’s certainly not impossible. That’s because even small SUVs can feel roomy inside.

Relay Cars explains that a smaller SUV can provide less overall space but still offer sufficient room in the front seat to satisfy a taller person. When considering potential vehicles, therefore, it’s important for a tall person to pay especially close attention to the shoulder, hip, and legroom that the front seats provide. Luckily, some small SUVs provide surprisingly ample measurements in these areas.

Two of the best small SUVs for tall drivers are Hondas

Two of the best small SUVs for tall drivers come from Honda. These are the Honda Pilot and the Honda CR-V.

The 2022 Honda Pilot Black Edition offers 39.5 inches of front headroom, 40.9 inches of front legroom, 62 inches of front shoulder room, and 59.1 inches of front hip room, according to Relay Cars. This Honda SUV also offers advantages over other SUVs in the area of fuel economy, coming in at 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The Pilot Black Edition is pricier than some other smaller SUVs, however. It starts at $51,870.

Then there’s the Honda CR-V, which offers 41.3 inches of legroom, 57.9 inches of front shoulder room, and 55.1 inches of front hip room. Based on these measurements, Consumer Reports praised the CR-V for its roomy interior (including even the toe space under the front seats). One advantage of the 2022 CR-V over the Pilot Black Edition is its starting price of only $26,400.

Another small SUV that garners accolades for its spacious interior is the Toyota RAV4, which, according to Relay Cars, offers 39.5 inches of headroom, 41 inches of legroom, 57.8 inches of shoulder room, and 54.3 inches of hip room.

All in all, the best way for a tall driver to be sure that a certain small SUV will be comfortable is to take it for a test drive. Only by sitting in the driver’s seat for an extended period can a driver be sure they won’t regret their purchase. Of course, the same goes for any driver, not just tall ones: know what you’re getting before you plunk down that dough.

Small SUVs have a certain appeal to drivers

Nowadays, more drivers are turning to small SUVs for their daily driving. These vehicles appeal to buyers for many reasons, including their similarity to cars. Smaller SUVs are much easier to handle than their larger counterparts, but they still offer the cargo room many crave. The versatility of smaller SUVs is ideal for those who need to navigate city driving regularly.

Smaller SUVs also often have good safety ratings, thanks to their larger size compared with compact cars, and best of all, for many potential buyers, these SUVs are much more affordable than full-size SUVs. For all these reasons, tall drivers might hope to find a small SUV that won’t cause them to feel cramped.
