Federal tax credits for electric vehicles (EVs) are sometimes enough to persuade a would-be EV buyer to take the high-voltage leap. Especially if that tax credit means $7,500 to deaden the financial impact of a modern EV. Well, if you’re a high-riding Bow Tie fan, two Chevy EV SUVs qualified for the full $7,500 incentive: the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Equinox EV.

The $7,500 tax credit has kept EV buyers interested amidst a continuously anti-EV narrative. However, with cheap clean vehicles abroad, the federal government is offering the incentive to a select few models that meet specific criteria.

However, even after the demise of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV, the Bow Tie has two EV SUVs that qualify for the full $7,500 tax credit. They’re the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Chevrolet Blazer EV, the brand’s electrified crossover and mid-size SUVs, respectively.

Chevy EV SUV modelStarting price (before federal tax credit)
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV$43,295
2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV$50,195

The latest stipulations add a strict final assembly requirement. It’s a maneuver that disincentivizes outside market competitors like the much cheaper BYD Seagull from accessing the US EV market. As a result, both Chevy EV SUVs qualify for the full incentive, while the champion of chargeable affordability, the Nissan LEAF, qualifies for a $3,750 incentive.

However, we expect the return of the Chevrolet Bolt to undercut cheaper options like the LEAF. Also, should the Bolt EUV roll off the assembly lines here in the US, its owners will have access to one of the most affordable EVs in the US market.
