Many consumers are thinking about buying an EV right now. However, one of the main issues facing owners is range anxiety. They typically have a lower range than regular cars. That said, there are seven very long-range EVs with over 400 miles of range. Here’s a look at the two EV automakers that dominate the list, and only one of them is Tesla.

7. The 2022 Tesla Model S with over 400 miles of range

Tesla is the most well-known EV automaker and has been pushing the limits of what EVs can do for a while. The Model S has continued to receive upgrades, including in how much range it can get.

According to J.D. Power, the Model S is the only Tesla with over 400 miles of range. The Model S costs over $106,000 and can get about 405 miles of range. When equipped with 19-inch wheels, the Model S Plaid is close to hitting 400 miles, but it only gets 396 miles of range. The rest of the list is dominated by another automaker. 

6. 2022 Lucid Air Dream Pure with 21-inch wheels

That other automaker is Lucid Motors. When equipped with 21-inch wheels, the Lucid Air Dream Pure gets 451 miles of range. That gives it almost 50 miles more range than the Model S. According to J.D. Power, this version of the Air should cost between $75,000 and $90,000, which also makes it much cheaper than the Model S.

5. 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring with 21-inch wheels

The next EV to have over 400 miles of range is the Air Grand Touring with 21-inch wheels. It gets 469 miles of range. That said, it’s a far more expensive EV, costing about $140,000. 

4. 2022 Lucid Air Dream Pure with 19-inch wheels

The Air Dream Pure can get even more range thanks to the smaller wheels. It tops out at about 471 miles and its price is still between $75,000 and $90,000. 

3. 2022 Lucid Air Dream Range with 21-inch wheels

Then there’s the Air Dream Range, which gets 481 miles when equipped with 21-inch wheels. However, it is costly at about $170,000.

2. 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring with 19-inch wheels

In second place is the Air Grand Touring with 19-inch wheels. This allows the EV to get 516 miles of range and should still cost around $140,000. It gets over 100 miles more range than the Model S gets.

1. 2022 Lucid Air Dream Range with 19-inch wheels

Finally, the EV with the most range is the Air Dream Range when equipped with 19-inch wheels. This EV gets 520 miles of range. Its price tag should still start at around $170,000.

Why Lucid dominates this list with over 400 miles of range

Lucid Motors dominates J.D. Power’s list mainly because the Air has several versions and are different enough to warrant being included. On top of that, the long-range EV market is small.

This is because the only EVs with long ranges are luxury EVs, and only a handful of automakers are making luxury EVs right now. Tesla used to focus on luxury options, but has since shifted its focus to EVs regular people can afford. Meanwhile, Lucid Motors is currently focused on luxury EVs, and the company seems to have jumped over Tesla in terms of range.
