One of the most common ways to measure how fast a car is its 0-60 mph time. The lower the number, the better, and lately, that elusive time measurement has been getting closer to zero. It may be hard to believe, but as electric and hybrid propulsion get more popular and advanced over time, cars are becoming much quicker.
However, would you believe the two quickest production cars that can hit 60 mph in a flash aren’t electrically assisted? Check out which ones they are.
The car with the quickest 0-60 mph time is full of American muscle
Although cars like the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Bugatti Chiron can get up to the 60-mph mark in around two seconds, there is one American car that can beat them both. The 2023 Dodge Demon SRT Demon 170 is currently the quickest production car, which only takes 1.66 seconds to reach 60 mph. That’s insanely quick, and it does it with plenty of muscle-car power.
Under the hood of the SRT Demon is a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 1,025 hp and 945 lb-ft of torque. So it’s no wonder that it can reach the 60-mph benchmark so quickly. Even more impressive is its top speed of 215 mph and its quarter-mile time of 8.91 seconds. That time makes it faster than exotic cars like the Pininfarina Battista.
However, it should be noted that this super-fast American muscle car costs a pretty penny, with an MSRP of $100,361. Surprisingly, that’s pretty cheap, considering the type of performance it puts out.
The second-quickest car to 60 mph has a lot of German flare
If American muscle isn’t your thing, then there’s one German car that can get up to 60 mph in the blink of an eye as well. The 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S can reach the 60-mph mark in only 2.2 seconds. That makes it far quicker than exotics like the 2023 McLaren GT.
This is all made possible by a turbocharged 3.8-liter, six-cylinder engine that pumps out 640 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Launching the turbo 911 is an easy point-and-shoot affair with its eight-speed PDK transmission that puts the power to the ground and shifts with lightning-like quickness. Apparently, the amount of gusto the 911 Turbo S exudes is nearly EV-like, but with the addition of a sonorous exhaust note.
According to an editor at CNET, “This is eye-opening, neck-snapping stuff you’re not liable to experience anywhere else this side of an EV. Unlike an EV, you have a lovely sound to go with it.”
