The vehicles are ranked according to comfort and amenities, efficiency, performance, utility, and tech features. For comfort and amenities, TrueCar looks at the little extras that make the vehicle comfortable to drive and ride in such as upholstery materials and keyless entry.

Efficiency is rated based on fuel or electric usage. These values are taken straight from the manufacturers. The performance scoring metric compares factors such as horsepower, torque, acceleration and speed, and braking. 

Utility is compared among vehicles based on whatever the vehicle is typically used for. For example, if you are towing a trailer, you will want a higher towing capacity depending on the size of the load.
