A recent study shows that two mid-size trucks have an advantage against every single other model in the class. Only two models managed to make it on the list of the top 30 cars that are most likely to reach or surpass 250,000 miles.

The Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline are the longest-lasting mid-size trucks

According to iSeeCars, the two longest-lasting mid-size trucks are the Toyota Tacoma and the Honda Ridgeline. Other trucks in the segment, including the Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, and Chevy Colorado failed to make it on the list.

iSeeCars analyzed over 402 million cars to determine which models were the most likely to reach 250,000 miles or more. An average vehicle has an 8.6% chance of lasting over a quarter million miles.

The Ridgeline and Tacoma were pretty high up on the list. The Tacoma landed in fourth place with a 26.8% chance of making it to 250,000 miles or more, which is 3.1 times higher than the average.

The Ridgeline came in sixth place with a 25.8% chance of reaching 250,000 miles or more which is 3.0 times higher than the average.

Overall, the Toyota Tundra landed in first place with a 36.6 chance of surpassing 250,000 miles. The Ram 1500 came in 30th or last place with an 11.5% chance.

On the list that only includes trucks, the Chevy Colorado came in 18th place with a 10.4% chance of making it and the Nissan Frontier came in 19th place with a 9.6% chance. The Ford Ranger didn’t make it on the list of the longest-lasting trucks.

The Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline are extremely different types of mid-size trucks. The Tacoma is built to be highly durable and conquer the wild while the Ridgeline is made for comfort and practicality.

For example, the Ridgeline has a unibody design to provide a smoother ride while the Tacoma has a traditional body-on-frame build for more off-roading prowess. While one is made to withstand abuse the other probably sticks to the pavement more often, avoiding riskier activities.

Also, the 2024 Tacoma marks a brand new generation with new engine options. It will be interesting to see if the new truck lives up to its reliable reputation.
