Lexus is a popular luxury automaker that’s well-known for building high-quality cars that are comfortable, safe, and reliable. With that being said, while the Japanese automaker is reliable overall, naturally some of its models are more reliable than others. Here’s a look at the two most reliable Lexus models based on what their owners had to say.

An overview of Consumer Reports’ new vehicle reliability rankings

Every year Consumer Reports sends out a survey to hundreds of thousands of its members and asks them about their car. With that data in hand, the analysts at Consumer Reports can give a car a reliability rating. For cars that don’t have enough of such data, the analysts will give the car a predicted reliability score. 

The results of this reliability survey aren’t too surprising. Once again, Asian automakers such as Toyota, Lexus, and Honda dominate the list in terms of brand reliability. Luxury automakers, such as Mercedes-Benz, and American automakers, such as Ford and Chevy, were at the bottom of the list.

Lexus came in second place in terms of brand reliability. The luxury Japanese automaker used to be in first place in the prior model year, but it’s not as big of a deal as it may seem.

That’s because the current most reliable brand is Toyota, which is the automaker that owns Lexus. And while all Lexus models scored decently in terms of reliability, two cars were in the front of the pack. They were the GX and the NX Hybrid; both named the two most reliable Lexus models. 

An overview of the reliable 2023 Lexus GX

The GX is a full-size luxury SUV, and it’s still in its second generation. This generation has been going on since the 2009 model year, but the 2023 model year will be the last model before the luxury automaker gives it a redesign. According to U.S. News, Lexus has given the GX upgrades in the meanwhile, and that has helped it continue to be a reliable and solid option.

There’s only one engine option on this full-size luxury SUV, and it’s a 4.6-liter V8 that gets 301 hp. It’s paired to a six-speed automatic, and four-wheel drive is a standard feature. This engine is very similar to the engine that Lexus gave the GX in 2009. Some drivers may think that it lacks power compared to other full-size SUVs, but the GX can still be a very capable off-roader.

On the inside, the GX is large and luxurious, though it does have some issues. It seats seven, and synthetic leather upholstery is standard. It has a max cargo capacity of 64.7 cu. ft. However, the third-row seats aren’t too comfortable, and its interior design is outdated. The GX starts at about $56,500.

The 2023 NX Hybrid is also a very reliable Lexus

The NX Hybrid, meanwhile, is a much newer car as it was redesigned in the 2022 model year. On top of that, this compact luxury SUV is reportedly more reliable with the hybrid powertrain than with the gas-powered engine.

There are two hybrid powertrains available, and the standard is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that works with three electric motors to get 240 hp. The other is a PHEV, and it gets 304 hp instead.

This compact Lexus SUV has a CVT and all-wheel drive as standard. The standard NX Hybrid gets 41 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on highways, for 39 mpg combined. It seats five, and it tops out at 46.9 cu-ft. of cargo capacity.  Overall, the NX Hybrid is a luxurious, reliable, and efficient SUV, and it starts at about $41,500.
