  • The 2022 Genesis G70’s discounted MSRP could be a sign of recovery in the auto market
  • Consumer Reports was more than satisfied with the new G70
  • Even a small discount off the already thrifty Genesis is worth considering

Finally, some sign of normalcy in the auto market. No, 2% doesn’t sound like it’s any sort of sign of normalcy, but thanks to Genesis it’s a start. We all know how fast new and used car prices have risen, and this small discount could be a sign of some recovery. Besides, the 2022 Genesis G70 is already a smokin’ deal without the discount.

The 2022 Genesis G70 is cheaper than MSRP right now

Consumer Reports put together a list of ten models that were discounted the most. So, even better news there. The 2022 Genesis G70 isn’t the only new sedan (or truck) out there with a discount. And if dealers are discounting new cars, that means they have the inventory to do so. To be fair, some automakers have been hit harder than others. But a good sign nonetheless.

So, the Genesis. Right now, the 2022 Genesis G70 starts at $37,525 and runs up to $54,500 with options. Frankly, your savings aren’t going to be that great thanks to this 2% average discount that Consumer Reports is seeing. However, it’s still money, even if it’s only around $900 of it. Distributed across a lease, it’s even less, maybe a hundred bucks at best.

Thankfully, chip shortage or not, any discount on the Genesis G70’s MSRP is one worth talking about. The 2022 Genesis G70 is already a great deal on its own. From the base 2.0L turbo RWD model to the top-tier 3.3L V6 with all-wheel drive, the Genesis is a sporty luxury car that’s pleased just about everyone who’s gotten behind the wheel. Plus, Hyundai/Genesis offers a huge 10-year 100,000-mile warranty.

Consumer Reports’ own rating systems point out the many strengths of this new sporty sedan. On their 0-100 rating scale, the G70 scores a solid 73/100, owing largely to an excellent performance in the publication’s road test. However, given the 2022 Genesis G70’s recent birth, Consumer Reports reflects some concerns regarding reliability.

The G70’s MSRP could point to chip shortage relief

Regardless, discounts like this, no matter how small, could mean that we’re starting to see some relief from the chip shortage. Inventories are beginning to rise across the country, and the Genesis, along with other cars on the list, is a sign of slow but steady improvement. The chip shortage isn’t an issue that’ll go away overnight, but some brands are beginning to learn how to work around our current circumstances.
