2 Reasons the Ram Revolution Is the Ford F-150 Lightning’s Worst Nightmare
The Ram Revolution Concept hints at the future of Ram pickup trucks. Stellantis brand Ram is known for producing one of the most popular full-size pickup trucks in the country: the Ram 1500. The Ram 1500 goes head to head with America’s favorite pickup truck, the Ford F-150, year after year. Here’s why the Ford F-150 Lightning has found a nemesis in the Ram Revolution.
Ram’s quality speaks for itself
If you asked a Ram 1500 driver what the defining characteristic of their truck is, many would say its quality is what makes it a Ram truck. The Ram 1500 is extremely refined for its segment, especially at upper trim levels. The full-size pickup truck is a daily driver that can double as a work truck, but it puts comfort first. The truck delivers a driver-centric experience, which is why it can keep up with the Ford F-150 in sales despite being more expensive.
The F-150 may regularly win the title of the most popular full-size pickup truck, but there’s plenty of debate surrounding which model is the better buy. This debate will likely evolve as Ford and Ram produce competitive electric truck models. Another rivalry is born (which is great news for consumers).
Ram’s electric pickup truck is heading to market after the F-150 Lightning, so it’ll have to really bring the heat to compete. From the looks of the Ram Revolution Concept, Ram did not disappoint. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect a more luxurious pickup than the Ford F-150 Lightning once the Ram Revolution hits the streets.
It’s much too early to see how the two electric pickup trucks compare, but Ram has given fans just enough to be very excited for the upcoming EV. It’s not just a Ram 1500 with an electric powertrain. The nameplate is something new from the American automaker. Something new and revolutionary.
The Ram Revolution will benefit from tax incentives
Ford F-150 Lightning models may temporarily qualify for the federal electric vehicle tax incentive following the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, but that won’t be the case forever. The Blue Oval is rapidly approaching the sales threshold. The first round of F-150 Lightning buyers greatly benefitted from the incentive. Ram Revolution buyers will be able to do the same.
Ram Rev orders should be able to be discounted by as much as $7,500 once drivers redeem the EV tax credit. One of the benefits of coming to market later than competitors is a larger window of time than rivals to claim the full incentive. If the Ram Revolution is significantly more expensive than the F-150 Lightning, the incentive should level the playing field for Ram. If the electric pickup truck is within the same price range, it’ll seem like a steal when considering the cost after the tax credit is applied.
Ram Revolution vs Ford F-150 Lightning
The stage is set for a Godzilla vs. King Kong-style clash of the titans. Two of the biggest names in the full-size pickup truck space will do battle once again in a newer vehicle segment. Gearheads are excited to see Ram shock the world with its first fully electric pickup truck. According to TheVerge, the goal behind the production of the Ram Rev is to outshine competitors in every category.
