200,000 Jeep 4xe Hybrids Recalled Due to Software Issues
We’ve got another recall for y’all today. This one involves nearly 200,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models due to a software issue that prevents the windshield from defrosting. See if your Jeep Wrangler 4xe or Grand Cherokee 4xe is involved.
Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe defroster recall
Stellantis is recalling about 200,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid vehicles because a software issue is disabling the windshield defrost system.
As a result, the windshield may remain foggy, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of accidents and injuries. Plus, this could be a real bummer on cold mornings when you need to defrost the windshield before work.
This recall includes 2021 – 2024 Wrangler 4xe models and 2022 – 2024 Grand Cherokee 4xe models. These vehicles may have been assembled with incorrectly programmed hybrid control processor software that may disable the windshield defroster under certain conditions.
Stellantis will begin notifying owners at risk by April 5, 2024, via mail. You can call Stellantis at 800-853-1403 with any questions you may have. Its recall number for this issue is 04B.
You can also visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHSTA) site to enter your 17-digit vehicle identification number (V.I.N).
Unfortunately, you will have to visit a local dealership if your Jeep 4xe model is involved. You don’t have to return to the same dealership where you purchased your vehicle. A local place is fine.
A Jeep technician will inspect your vehicle and apply a software update to the hybrid control processor for free. It should be a quick and easy fix.
Also, hybrid vehicles get some flack, so I just want to point out that this problem isn’t related to the batteries!
