The fifth-generation Ford Mustang, also known as the S197, offered the last of the retro Mustangs. The S197 generation ended in 2014, giving way to the grand tourer-esque S550 models, but only after leaving plenty of used options for fans. Also, the 2014 model is the last retro-body Mustang with a V8 engine and post-facelift updates. As a result, the 2014 Ford Mustang GT is a performance bargain with a tire-roasting V8. 

Is 2014 a good Mustang year?

The 2014 Ford Mustang is a good year for the model, packing powerful engines like the Coyote V8. Moreover, the post-facelift aesthetic of the 2013 and 2014 model years gives the 2014 Mustang a modern classic look and feel, with LED lighting and angular lines. 

Also, the 2014 Ford Mustang hosted one of the fastest Ford Mustangs ever produced: the S197 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Like the 2014 Mustang GT, the GT500 derives its power from a V8. However, in the Shelby’s case, the power output is 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque courtesy of a supercharged 5.8L mill. 

How much horsepower does a 2014 Mustang 5.0 GT have?

The 2014 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 produces 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, the GT’s power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.0L Coyote V8 with a standard six-speed manual or automatic transmission. 

Unfortunately, every manual-equipped Mustang after 2011 packs a Getrag-sourced MT82 six-speed manual transmission. That unit has the propensity to wear prematurely and sometimes fail altogether. Still, the 2014 GT’s 5.0L Coyote engine is much more powerful than the 4.6L “3V” V8 it replaced. 

Is a 2014 Mustang GT fast?

The 2014 Ford Mustang GT is quite fast; the V8-powered GT can hit 60 mph in the low four-second range, with Car and Driver getting the 2013 model to 60 in 4.5 seconds and 4.2 seconds with the Boss 302 Laguna Seca.

Of course, the Boss lineup is more special edition interpretations than they are GTs, but they both use the Coyote V8. Still, the 2014 GT is agile for a pony car without independent rear suspension like the sixth-generation cars.

The 2014 Ford Mustang GT has a fair value of around $18,806 with average mileage. Moreover, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says the GT Premium has a fair purchase price of about $20,187. 

The Premium package added leather seats, an upgraded infotainment setup with Ford Sync, and power seats. However, many fans will be on the lookout for the optional Recaro seats that Ford offered in the pony cars.

According to J.D. Power, the 2014 Ford Mustang is number two in its “sporty cars” category. Moreover, with 82 out of 100 in the reliability segment, the 2014 GT is a solid option for fans looking to get into a dependable V8-powered coupe or convertible.
