The 2016 Ford Edge Has Everything You Could Want in a Used SUV
Sometimes it’s easy to assume that used means broken down, but that’s not always the case. While it’s certainly possible to buy a used vehicle only to find there are so many problems with it that it’s ready for the junkyard, that isn’t always the case. In fact, sometimes it makes better sense to buy used than new. The 2016 Ford Edge is getting a lot of love from Consumer Reports and is one of the best used two-row SUVs you can buy.
It’s all about the fuel efficiency
Gas prices are notorious for fluctuating, especially when it comes time for hurricane season. With that being said, it makes sense to invest in a vehicle that doesn’t guzzle gas like a thirsty horse in the desert.
The 2016 Ford Edge meets that criteria, which is why Consumer Reports added it to its list of used two-row midsized SUVs with the best fuel economy. Owners report that it gets 22 mpg. For a midsized SUV, that’s like a dream come true.
This is about the same as all the other used SUVs to make the list, like the 2016 Lexus RX and the 2016 BMW X5. The 2016 Subaru Outback gets 26 mpg, but that’s another story.
Even so, 22 mpg is rather impressive and is reason enough to give the Ford Edge some serious consideration. There’s more to the Edge than just great fuel economy, however.
Consumer Reports couldn’t stop bragging about the Ford Edge

Consumer Reports rarely fails to speak its mind, and sometimes it can be downright harsh if a vehicle isn’t up to par. That’s not a bad thing, as it helps potential consumers know if they’re getting ready to buy a lemon. It also makes the review all the more crucial if a vehicle gets high praise.
The 2016 Edge really managed to impress the review site. In fact, Consumer Reports stated, “Ford has been on a bit of a roll of late in creating appealing cars, such as the Fusion, Focus, and Mustang. The redesigned Edge five-seat crossover shows a dynamic polish and upscale cabin that befits a prestige-branded model. Deserving of a “Most Improved” trophy, the Edge brings newfound handling agility, interior refinement, and overall premium feel to the nameplate — catapulting it near the top of our midsized SUV ratings.”
The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine was especially impressive as it delivers a smooth ride that is also sporty. Even better is the fact that there is no lag while accelerating.
The interior feels upscale, with its soft, high-quality materials. The seats are comfortable, and the Sync 3 infotainment system makes life just a little easier.
A used 2016 Ford Edge has a price range of $13,650 to $21,425. That might seem expensive, especially considering you can buy a new vehicle for that same price, but it comes with plenty of modern conveniences that help it compete with new SUVs.
Be careful which model you get
While Consumer Reports couldn’t help but sing the praises of the 2016 Ford Edge, there were a few faults that can’t be overlooked. The biggest for the review site was the poor visibility. That’s why Consumer Reports recommended that you purchase a model with a blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic warning systems if you can find it.
There are also some recalls that you need to be aware of before you purchase the 2016 Ford Edge. The airbags, steering, and service brakes are on this list. All these issues should be fixed, but try to find out if the necessary repairs have been made before you sign on the dotted line.
