Dodge is going to discontinue the Charger sedan before the 2024 model year. That’s a shame, considering the many options the Mopar muscle sedan offered to fans and car buyers. However, the Charger leaves behind many model years for used car shoppers. For instance, the 2017 Dodge Charger has multiple trims like the R/T and SXT, a library of engines, and even optional all-wheel drive (AWD). 

How much does a 2017 Charger cost?

Depending on the trim, mileage, title status, and location, a 2017 Dodge Charger could cost less than $20,000. For instance, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says a 2017 Dodge Charger SXT has a fair purchase price of around $19,420. Of course, the entry-level SE trim goes for about $18,352 in the used market.  

A V8-powered R/T trim demands around $4,200 more than the SXT with similar mileage. Furthermore, the beefier R/T Scat Pack has a fair purchase price of about $31,233. Of course, many Charger fans will want the SRT Hellcat, which has a fair value of around $46,709. Despite the much higher used car value of the Hellcat compared to the SXT, the SRT Hellcat is a supercharged performance bargain that can cross the 200 mph benchmark.  

What engine does the 2017 Dodge Charger SXT have?

The 2017 Dodge Charger SXT packs a 3.6L Pentastar V6, sending 292 horsepower to the rear wheels. However, unlike the V8-powered trims further up the model lineup, the SXT can match that V6 with optional AWD for better performance in inclement weather. Still, if the V6 doesn’t meet your expectations, the Charger offers many V8 trims. 

For instance, the naturally aspirated 2017 Dodge Charger R/T produces 370 horsepower with its 5.7L V8. Moreover, the Charger R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, and SRT 392 churn out 485 horsepower. However, the range-topping SRT Hellcat packs a 707-horsepower capable of sending the four-door sedan to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. That is, unless the Hellcat consumes its tires first. 

How long does a 2017 Dodge Charger SXT last?

The 2017 Dodge Charger SXT, R/T, and more powerful trims in the lineup have the potential to last a long time and hundreds of thousands of miles with proper care and maintenance. According to Jerry, a Dodge Charger could last between 250,000 and 300,000 miles. However, the 2017 Charger and other model years of the post-facelift sedan have their problems. 

Is the 2017 Dodge Charger reliable?

The 2017 Dodge Charger scored “above average” for reliability compared to other full-size cars. Specifically, RepairPal gave the Charger a 3.5 out of 5.0 for reliability. Moreover, the Charger’s annual repair cost is around $652, meaning it also has average ownership costs. Furthermore, the Dodge sedan has a well-documented issue for the 2017 model year: shifting problems.
