Are Scat Packs V6s or V8s?

The Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack packs a V8 engine. Like the now-discontinued SRT 392, the Scat Pack conceals a 6.4L Hemi eight-cylinder mill. 

Unlike the smaller-displacement yet higher-horsepower 6.2L Hellcat V8, the 6.4L “Apache” V8 is devoid of forced induction. That means the 392 cubic inch V8 breathes without the assistance of a supercharger. That’s not necessarily bad, though; the Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack enjoys smile-inducing throttle response with its simple, stout powerplant. 

How much horsepower does a 2017 Scat Pack have?

The 2017 Dodge Charger Scat Pack, like the previous and following model years, produces 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. That power is courtesy of the largest displacement block in the marque’s recent lineup. 

Of course, the 2017 Scat Pack’s closest siblings, the Daytona and SRT 392, also make 485 horsepower from the same naturally aspirated Apache V8. However, TrueCars suggests that the SRT 392 is posher on the inside than the Scat Pack, with features like heated leather seats and ambient lighting. Still, the SRT Hellcat takes the power, hilarity, and comfort of the Scat Pack further with standard leather seats and a shrieking 707-horsepower supercharged V8. 

How much is a 2017 Scat Pack Charger worth?

The 2017 Dodge Charger Scat Pack is a bargain, depending on mileage, condition, and location. For instance, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says that a 2017 Charger Scat Pack has a fair purchase value of around $31,233 with average mileage. 

That makes the Scat Pack one of the most powerful used vehicles for its price point. To put 485 horsepower or more in your stable at that price point, you’ll have to look at older, more premium options like an E60-generation BMW M5. Still, the 2017 Scat Pack is quite a bit cheaper than a 2022 model’s $50,340 starting price point. Moreover, Mopar fans who want more power can opt for a 2017 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, which KBB values at around $46,709. 

Is the Scat Pack an SRT?

While the Dodge Charger and Challenger Scat Pack produce raucous noise and high horsepower, they aren’t SRT products. Instead, the Scat Pack wears the R/T badge with the bigger 6.4L V8 instead of the standard R/T’s 5.7L mill. 

Still, even though the R/T Scat Pack won’t brandish an SRT badge on its steering wheel, it’s still a muscle sedan with bargain horsepower. If the SRT badge is that important to you, KBB says the SRT 392 with the same 6.4L V8 has a fair purchase price of around $37,031. Unsurprisingly, fans will have to stretch for the badge and the extra refinement.
