A 2018 Ford Mustang GT Automatic Is Faster Than 5 Seriously Fast Cars
The Ford Mustang GT is quick, but the 10-speed automatic transmission-equipped 2018 Mustang GT is properly fast. That’s a cringe-worthy sentiment for fans of a manual Mustang, but the numbers speak for themselves. In fact, the 2018 Ford Mustang GT Automatic is faster than some seriously fast cars, like the upcoming Nissan Z Performance and the Audi S5.
- Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack
- Nissan Z Performance
- Kia Stinger GT2
- Ford Mustang Bullitt
- Audi S5
Is an R/T Scat Pack faster than a Mustang GT?
While the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack has volcanic horsepower and torque figures, it’s not enough to outrun the GT. MotorTrend managed to get the 2018 Ford Mustang GT with 460 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic transmission to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. That’s swift enough to outrun the traction-limited R/T Scat Pack. The heavy Challenger, with its 485-horsepower 6.4L V8, will hit 60 mph in around 4.3 seconds.
How much horsepower will the Nissan Z have?
The upcoming Nissan Z produces 400 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine across its trims. While that’s quite a bit less power than the Mustang GT’s 460 ponies, the Nissan Z Performance is still quick enough to keep pace with the 2018 Ford Mustang GT Automatic. In Hagerty’s testing, the auto-equipped Nissan Z Performance managed a 4.0-second sprint to 60 mph. That makes the retro-inspired Z nearly quick enough to beat the GT.
Is the Kia Stinger GT2 slower than a 2018 Ford Mustang GT Automatic?
The Kia Stinger GT2, especially with all-wheel drive (AWD), is a seriously fast sports sedan. In terms of power, the Stinger GT2 AWD produces 368 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque from its twin-turbocharged 3.3L V6 mill. That’s impressive, but it’s not enough to move the four-door sleeper with 2018 Ford Mustang GT-levels of thrust. In Car and Driver testing, the Stinger GT2 AWD returned a pace of 4.6 seconds to 60 mph. However, sports sedan shoppers might be happier with a faster and comparably priced 2023 Audi S4.
Is a 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt slower than a 2018 Mustang GT Automatic?
Although the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt produces an additional 20 horsepower more than the 2018 Ford Mustang GT, the GT is faster. The 480-horsepower 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt has only one transmission option: the Getrag-sourced MT82 six-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, this transmission has issues and makes for slower launches than the 2018 Ford Mustang GT’s 10-speed automatic transmission. While the row-your-own manual in the Bullitt is more engaging than a shiftable automatic, it slows the Dark Highland Green coupe to a 4.4-second 60 mph dash.
How fast does an Audi S5 go from 0 to 60?
The Audi S5 adds sportiness to Audi’s two-door coupe platform. Using its AWD grip and 354-horsepower turbocharged V6, the S5 can hit 60 mph in around 4.3 seconds, about as fast as the larger, heavier, more powerful Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack. That means the 2018 Ford Mustang GT is faster and much cheaper than a $60,000 Audi S5.
