Anyone starting a search for a used midsize sedan will almost inevitably find two models on their short list: the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. As it gets harder to find a new car on a dealer lot or afford a low-mileage used car, more drivers are turning to slightly older models. Today, we’ll take a look at the 2018 Honda Accord and the 2018 Toyota Camry. 

Both the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry were redesigned in 2018

Autotrader compared these two models back when they were new, and was rather impressed with them both. For the Accord, writer James Riswick claimed that “the Accord arguably started from a stronger position, but its redesign was equally revolutionary. It’s lower and wider, it has a sleek fastback roofline and its brash face is a far cry from those conservative Accords of the past.”

For the Accord, Riswick wrote that “the new Camry is very different from the car it replaces. It’s more attractive, it’s better to drive and it has one of the segment’s best interiors (it hasn’t in quite a while) …  If the last few Camry models have underwhelmed, the new one overachieves.”

The 2018 Honda Accord is one of the most recommended used Accord model years, but don’t count the Camry out just yet.

The 2018 Toyota Camry is more powerful than the 2018 Honda Accord

When comparing the Honda Accord vs Camry, we can’t forget about what’s under the hood. The 2018 Toyota Camry offers a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. On higher grades, the Camry equips a 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s good for 301 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. At best, the Camry can see up to 28 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 32 mpg combined. The 2018 model is one of the best Camry model years for this reason.

On the flip side, the 2018 Honda Accord is less powerful but does deliver turbocharged power. The base engine on the Accord is a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine making 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. Upper grades offer a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine good for 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The smaller turbo can see up to 30 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg combined.

Both cars offer stellar safety features and ratings

Autotrader says that both the 2018 Accord and Camry “go above and beyond the norm” for safety and security. For 2018, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control are listed as standard for both cars. Available blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems are optional.

Both the Camry and Accord are some of the best midsize sedans to buy used, and their great safety features are only one reason why.

Which is better, the 2018 Camry or Accord?

The Honda Accord is one of the best used cars under $20,000, but the Toyota Camry is no slouch. In the video comparison above, Edmunds rated the 2018 Accord slightly ahead of the 2018 Camry. However, both sedans offer a long list of pros.
