There are seven open safety recalls addressing a range of issues with the popular SUV. Some Grand Cherokees have major safety concerns. Improperly fitted floor mats can cause the accelerator to be stuck open.

Some complaints noted that the infotainment system will often fail, sometimes in conjunction with loss of engine power. Some drivers report the infotainment system screen froze before the vehicle lost power.

Recall for 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 21 other vehicles

The frequent complaints about sudden power loss in 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokees are likely related to an open NHTSA safety recall. More than 12,000 units have faulty voltage regulators. When these regulators fail, the SUVs stall out and can not be restarted.

Chrysler announced the recall on October 2, 2018, and affects 21 vehicles in addition to the Grand Cherokee. Affected owners should call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 and reference recall number 18V524000.

Grand Cherokee drivers can also contact Chrysler directly at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number U87. Licensed Jeep dealerships will replace the faulty powertrain control modules free of charge.
