The RAV4 is one of the most popular compact SUVs, so many consumers are interested in buying one. That might be why the prices are higher than the competition.

Which SUV has the more powerful engine?

The 2018 CX-5 has a more potent engine. Its 2.5-liter inline-four generates 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, the RAV4 has a 2.0-liter inline-four making 164 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. Both have a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

They get similar gas mileage

They say the engine head on this model year was defective, and the consumer site gave the problem a severity score of 10 out of 10. Car and Driver reviewers agree, awarding the 2018 Mazda CX-5 a perfect 10 overall rating. They gave the Toyota RAV4 only a 7.
