In 2019, Hyundai released its new luxury brand: the Genesis G70 sports sedan. It was a way to go toe-to-toe with other luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. The car’s sporty nature is a great asset many enjoy. However, those who have their eye on the 2019 Genesis G70 may wonder if it’s a used luxury car worth buying.

According to U.S. News, the Genesis G70 shares a platform with the Kia Stinger but has a shorter wheelbase of nearly three inches. While it has some characteristics of a sporty car, it relieves many drivers knowing the vehicle has an 8-speed shiftable automatic transmission. This avoids the necessity of precisely shifting the transmission to prevent stalling or rolling backward on hills.

This used luxury vehicle requires premium unleaded fuel and has a tank capacity of 15.8 gallons. Upon filling the gas tank, you can drive for 347.6 miles in the city, or 474 miles on the highway, before emptying the tank, thanks to the 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

The Genesis G70 seats five people comfortably. It has a cargo capacity of 10.5 cu-ft with all the seats in place, less than the Honda Civic with 15.1 cu-ft of cargo space.

2019 Genesis G70 trims

The 2019 Genesis G70 came with five trims: Advanced, Elite, Prestige, Dynamic, and Sport. All the trims came with passive and active safety technology. The AWD option is available on all trims except the Sport. The base trim has smartphone compatibility, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, multiple USB ports, proximity keyless entry, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and more.

2019 Genesis G70 features

The 2019 Genesis G70 has many features that make the vehicle an attractive option. It comes with tire pressure monitoring, so you never have to worry about losing the tire gauge. It has dusk-sensing headlamps, daytime running lights, and auto delay-off headlamps, ensuring you’re always noticeable.

The Genesis G70 has heated mirrors, one-touch power windows, keyless ignition, and turn signals in the mirrors. It also has an electro-chromatic inside rearview mirror, which is a mirror that automatically dims when it senses light from behind your car.

Reliability and recalls

According to Cars, there have been two recalls for the 2019 Genesis G70, one with the trunk lid latch and the other with the brakes. In some 2019 Genesis G70 vehicles, the trunk latch became damaged, preventing someone from being able to open it up from the inside.

Due to this issue, it failed to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard requirements. In some 2019-2021 Genesis G70 vehicles, the Anti-Lock Brake System would malfunction and short circuit.

Is it a car worth buying?

Based on all available information regarding features, reliability, depreciation, and specifications, it is worth buying unless you’re looking for a car with more trunk space and better fuel economy. Potential owners of a 2019 Genesis G70 would have to ask themselves if the lower fuel economy would be worth it, considering fuel prices. According to MotorTrend, the combination of the fuel prices, the fuel economy, plus maintenance, repairs, insurance, and state fees costs might have some potential owners thinking twice, despite the vehicle’s reliability.
